ANAL FISSURE

Hi fellow sufferers. I am new to Patient Uk, I have been reading all of your experiences It is nice to know that I am not the only one. All I can say is PAIN AND MORE PAIN. I have had this anal fissure for 12 weeks, my surgeon is a waste of space. I am unable to sleep, I have had to give working for a while I am an Holistic Therapist and work from home. My muscle goe's into spasms aches most of the time, I am having 5 baths a day, I know that when I wake up in the morning I am going to go through pain, My surgeon refuses to carry out the operation because of the risk of incontinence have any of your guys had a lateral sphincterotomy and become Incontinent. In the moring I am going to see my doctor and I am going to ask for a second opinion and I am going private and hope to get a surgeon that will perform this operation. My surgeon said that the fissure will go in 6 months like I believe that. I have been given so many creams and potions none of them work, so I am thinking surgery is my final option, It would be nice to hear from anyone that is going through this look forward to hearing from you.

Regards Moonfairy :D

A few months ago I read an article in a Health Mag saying Folic acid helped circulation (no local pharmacist had heard of this!), and as I have Raynauds syndrome (constatly cold, numb white fingers), and as all the creams for anal fissure seem to work by increasing circulation, tried Foloc acid: the pain from the fissure seemed to decrease...

Had the op today: very comfortable afterwards, slight pain, which worsened, but controlled easily by, I think Tramidol.Don't be afraid!!!

The next seven-ten days seem critical: an abscess may occur

Follow up report to be forwarded soon!

    Op was Tuesday 7th July

    Friday-very comfortable. 1st pooh/not too bad/some ache

    Sat poohing regularly/more tender

Wondering: when do I have an abscess

Do most have antibiotics prescribed “preventatively?

    Not agony-but a bit disappointed

    Sun pooh/hot bath/medium ache during day/no painkiller/hot bath/salt

    Mon pooh-sore(medium)/bath/comfy by 11.00am-FINE-Hallejuha!!!

    Tuesday poop-but bit achey

Reflection: it’s a very noble cause to try to heal anal fissures conservatively,

There comes a point at which creams only take the edge off-with side effects, and enough is enough: problem is convincing your surgeon to operate

Get a nurse practitioner who has had the fissure and has had the op

    (Welton)

but I’m very glad to have had the operation-which so far is a grand success.

    Poohed my pants once only!

    Thursday

Two megatrumps: moderate pain. Sizeable Pooh: pain til 11.00am. Better with ibuprofen-tolerable!!! (Did walk dog short way today early, weeding garden yesterday…perhaps a bit too much)

    Mon 20th

After each pooh fairly severe pain 7/10 on the Richter scale

    Bit disappointed: after the op-anticlimax

Did think fleetingly I’d be better off with colostomy: but after hot salt bath-better

Still not even 14 days after op

Hi, my healing was around 6 to 7 weeks x x x I'm still on lactulose and laxido

    Op was on 7.7.2015

It is not surprising after a surgical assault on the sphincter that after three weeks, I still had some after pain…

Since the last update, after a poop, sore, but manageable with ibuprofen, relief much sooner-say 1-2 hours, a bath and a sit-down

After a pooh, more manageable, relief same. Slowly but surely, the pain is resolving-and overall, a great result so far

The pain is entirely different, not broken bottle twisting, not like being kicked hard in the buttock

By my check-up on 14 Aug, I expect a very much improved situation, and I am a very happy chick!

If your pain from the fissure is chronic (nine months, say),

(Mine has been bad for three years, very bad last three months), and having religiously tried every cream suggested, and it has taken over your life, making even shopping, days out, meals out impossible, get your Health Centre (female) nurse practitioner to petition for an opinion by the best, most conservative, most experienced Colorectal surgeon you can find.

At £1600, there was no second thoughts-it has transformed my life.

Thanks to Prof Scholefield-Nottingham and Nurse Practitioner at Welton.

Hi Lesley, can' t believe 4 and a half years on and still in terrible pain with chronic fissure, the colerrectal surgeon I have been under for some time reckons having a sphincter cut will cause terrible incontinence( I would take that chance a hundred times over as long as the pain I have, mines a long story , in fact I could write a book and title it " a catalogue of errors!" Via the nhs

anyway my partner and I have decided we are going to see my g.p and ask for a private consultation ( I know it is going to cost me but at this rate it is going to cost me the last bit of sanity I have continuing under the other colerectal specialist )

i want to see this other colerectal surgeon as on his private hospital resume it specifically says he performs lis sphinceromotry ( sorry spelt wrong)

anyway you know what I mean!

i did also send his private secretary a e- mail and within 10 minutes she let me know he does perform this surgery and the price also

which was a bit dearer than you paid

did you have the lis surgery or did you have a fissureomtry

i am glad you are gradually getting better , where did you have your surgery? ,

these stupid fissures take over your life and practically floor you don't they!!

you don't need to go to GP to ask for private consultation.  just go to website of local private hospital, look for colo-rectal consultants, call them up and book an appointment, costs about £100.  the sphincteromy cost me £1,400. worth every penny.

    Prof scholefield at BMIpark, Nottingham

Les felt that slight incontinence and farting would be a small price to pay,

and the NPrac who has had the op said she had neither

occasionally had to rush to the loo...

Go private.  I found in NHS it was going to be 9 months before I could be done. They even misdiagnosed it as piles at first and were going to do a colonoscopy (worst thing you could possibly do for a fissure).   Even in private (costs about £1,400 for the operation) there is NO after care.  I needed 4-5 months to recover.  I left hospital with a box of paracetomol, but I was in such pain for months that I was in the bath at least 3 times a day, then would lie on bed for 4-5 hours with legs stretched out not moving, as any movement would be so painful I would scream.  Here I am 15 months later and it worked, I can even ride bike now.  It needs a lot of preparation for.  NO way you could do a job post-op (although I was in such pain pre-op I couldn't work either).  You need someone around to make sure you are OK for a couple of months afterwards.  You may spend up to 8 hours a day in baths and on your bed.

Hi graham , which procedure did you have? Was it lateral internal sphinceromotry, or a fissurectomy? Or both??

Valid comment, GrahamThe real point is that you dont want any old surgeon, you want the best in the UK...

      Hi Lesley,

How are you now, good I hope.

I had/ have an anal fissure, I had lots of bleeding, and pain going to loo, but had a Rectocele which meant I had to strain every time I had a bowel motion.

I'm now 7 weeks post op for Rectocele repair surgery, and still on softeners and laxatives. I had a really bad bleed last week when trying to have a bm, my muscles are just starting to work the right way after years of pushing the wrong way due to prolapse!

That only lasted a day, but since then the pain going to the toilet has been awful, and lasted nearly all day.

I really don't want more surgery, just want the horrific pain to go.
