Anal fissure

my mum was told by a consultant end Nov she has anal fissure, she is in excruciating pain. tried creams, bathing, pain killers etc. after being passed from pillar to post by nhs I got her a private consultation. this consultant said he couldn't see anal fissure but never examined too much as my mum was far too tender. 1st consultant examined with finger. now being referred as urgent suspected cancer....although he said not to alarm us, but be because of her age and symptoms its the quickest way to get thoroughly examined under ga and get to bottom of what's going on. her symptoms mirror almost everything on these discussions on this forum. she does not have bleeding although at the beginning she did and was being treated for haemmoroids. they've put the fear Into me after mentioning the C word. are fissures always visible?
