Anal fissure after ulcerative colitis/proctitis

Hello, im a 36 year old male. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was 18 which has been mild and under control. Five years ago I started getting what I now believe to be anal fissure, pain when going to the toilet and after, this was on and off for years. I was told that this was ulcerative proctitis so was on medication (salofalk) for this. It got not better and in the last 2 years it has become more and more constant. I had a colonoscopy a year ago to check for colitis which came back clear for colitis. The symptoms I am getting are exactly what I am reading in these forums. Its been really bad for the last 3 weeks and am taking sitz baths, stool softner and have now been given diltiazem. I would be interested in anyone else who has UC and then suffered from fissures. I cant see this ending without surgery. Also should the colonoscopy have shown up the fissure? My doctor says that the surgeon might not have been looking for it?! Also how are people being diagnosed? My doctor did a visual check and stated she couldn't see anything or are people diagnosed due to symptoms?

    hello

I went to a specialist to diagnose fissure.

I think that they have to look for it to see it.

why did they give diltiazem if not diagnose with fissure?

also, anuscope could be use to examine the issue.

For me , cream and even botox did not help.

    Had to schedule surgery.

    hi tom

firstly if it a fissure let me tell you ..., i know the pain your going through

ive had a chronic fissure just over a year now and its been hell

back n forth to DRs A&E ETC

It was my DR that assessed me first but looking and gently inserting his finger this was extremely painful but yes it is a fissure also a specialist checked and agreed

    allthou i dont have UC

BUT hope you find some answers regarding that

im currently awaiting to see my consultant again but is being delayed due to covid in relation to surgery as no creams etc have worked for me

good luck and stay safe n well

Thanks for the reply. I have just spoken to the hospital and told to contact again in 2 weeks if its no better. Not sure the diltiazem is making any difference. I'm glad i found this forum as didn't realise so many were going through the same thing.
