Anal Fissure and some sort of fleshy skin tag that has me in a panic

I'm a 41 year old female and I've been suffering on and off for the last nine years with an anal fissure. I have been using nifidepine ointment and in November I noticed when I inserted it to my anus, I could feel some sort of fibrous piece of skin. Of course that has now freaked me out. I tried to forget about it, but recently I've had flare-up and once again I've been using the nifidepine ointment and I can feel this fibrous skin again. It's about two inches into the anal cavity and it's soft.

I've been doing some research, but I have no idea what this could be. Has anyone else experienced this and what should I do?

I have a reluctant doctor who I had to beg to refer me to a specialist (two years of begging). When I saw the specialist seven years ago he diagnosed the fissure, prescribed the nifidepine and my doctor (who didn't even know what it was for) has been giving me refills ever since when I have a flare-up.

Do I go back to my GP and have her examine this? I'm freaking about it just thinking of seeing her.

Anus skin tag or anus pile.

I looked this up but I'm not seeing much internal. I figure maybe an sentinal pile? I'm seeing a lot of it as external not internal.

And thank you for the reply. And the reassurance because it's been on my mind all week.

Please go see a colorectal surgeon!  Nine years is way to long to be suffering.  I have an anal fistula that I have been suffering with since March 2016.  Went to a colorectal surgeon and in January 2017 had Botox injections and a skin tag (which had grown) removed.  Maybe what you have is a skin tag?

The only way to know is to see a specialist.  Do not go back to your GP.  When I first was having problems, I saw my GP and he put me on Linsest thinking I was suffering from hemorrhoids due to constipation.  You need to see a specialist!

    Good luck!

I can only see a specialist with my GP's referral. No way around that. Unfortunately, she's a gatekeeper so I'll have to pressure her for the referral again.

When I say nine years, there were some good times in there. Two years to see the specialist, then I was good for about five years and the last 18 months or so have been constant flare-ups. In the past the nifidepine has worked, but the last year has been an on and off again struggle.

Sounds as though it might be what I have which is anal stenosis, basically scar tissue. I was recently diagnosed and only after seeing a spevislist. Will be Gavin it removed. Hopefully this will give me relief. For the past 2 years having a BM has been torture

I panicked because it felt weird and I'm sure I'll panic again tonight when I have to apply this ointment. It's not overly big, smaller than the size of a pea, but I always fear the worst.

I don't think it bothers me otherwise (mentally only) as it's the fissure that's excrutiating.

But I have an appt with my GP this spring and I'll ready myself into battle with her and get that specialist referral.

I hear you. I've been suffering for 2 years. It started with constipation, then hemorrhoids and fissures. Now this scar tissue which has caused a blockage. I'm not sure where you live but for pain and swelling a product called Anurex has helped me. Insist on seeing a specialist who deals exclusively in rectal issues.

I'm in Canada. I'll look for the product.

My last referral was a specialist and I liked him, so hopefully I can get in to see him again.

My issue started with constipation too. And that's how it recurrs.

Thank you for replying, Kathy! Makes me feel better.

I would definitely go back. There is no real way to tell what is going on unless you go back to the specialist and he/she actually looks up there.

Its better to know than to play the guessing game and screw up somehow.

    Hope it gets better soon!

    Best,

    Myles

Hi Molly - relax Hun. It's from your fissure I assume. I have one too but mine is on the outside. Your lucky yours is hidden. My fissure has mostly healed but unfortunately my specialist said I would not want to remove it. I think cause it would be pain all over again. You may be stuck with it but it's nothing to get alarmed about. I would love mine to go away but it's not going to happen. Hope this helps.

I have no experience of this but a friend of mine has been suffering for years with a fissure, she eventually got an appointment, had an operation and is so thankful that she has because even at the great age of 86, she was so uncomfortable for too long. It was just plucking up the courage to get it done and then waiting for the procedure. She feels heaps better for it!
