Anal fissure that tested positive for HSV-1

I’ve always had anal fissures due to bowel problems. A week ago my anal fissure was swabbed at the STD clinic and came back positive for HSV-1....and also was told I had a BV...  before getting my positive results, I went to the ER the same day of hearing my anal fissure may be herpes. At the ER I was told I did not have herpes after getting my results back from the ER. At the ER the doctor explained that it’s rare that anal fissures happen b/c of herpes. And that my anal fissure was for sure infected but not consistent with herpes out breaks as the fissure didn’t have any bumps or blisters in clusters around it. No evidence of herpes from the ER from the same fissure that was swabbed at the STD clinic that gave me a positive! I don’t have any symptoms of herpes but everything I was told is consistent with what I’m experiencing. I’m really confused by the swabs one being negative & one being positive . Any insight is helpful

Did the ER swab it as well?  Typically a swab is pretty accurate, and just a verbal diagnosis from a doctor is not.  If they swabbed it too but theirs came back negative, then that’s pretty confusing.  If it does turn out to be HSV-1 for sure, you shouldn’t have many issues since it’s usually HSV-2 that lives in the genital area.  I have HSV-1 down there and have only had 1 breakout in 7 months.  It doesn’t show itself as much since it’s not on the mouth (which is where HSV-1 likes to be).  I hope it works out that it was just a false positive.  That would be great news!  We would all be jealous around here, lol!  But good luck to you. smile

Yes the anal fissure was swabbed at the ER also. 5-1-2018 I went to the same STD clinic for blood to be drawn as the anal fissure healed in like 48hrs after being at the ER. Is it weird that my anal fissure (that’s literally in the lining of my anus, about 1-2 in long) tested positive for herpes? Could the fact that my anal fissure was infected alter HSV results?
