Anal skin tag removal

Posted , 4 users are following.

since having my babies i have suffered with an anal skin tag which has got bigger after baby #2 recently. I have seen the consultant who has said he will operate under GA and remove the skin tag and leave the wound open to heal. I am booked in for this procedure in July.

I have read some horror stories online and i am petrified! I dont know what to do for the best. Can anyone share their experience of this procedure?

Thank you

@julie64486 thank you for your comments, how long did it take you to recover? I have a break away in sept and i dont know whether to postpone until after we are home after reading that some people are in agony for months

Hi it did take about six weeks but not all bad pain just discomfort really . It was not been able to sit that did it for me . Everyone is different with recovery and you could be great after a week . If it was me I would definitely not have it done before my hols I would go and enjoy then have it done when your home and can relax .

    Hi Martine,

I'm 7 days post-op, so still going through recovery. My main reason to have this done was aesthetics and hygiene. I had 2-3 lumps hanging down there, but they really didn't cause any symptoms, an occasional bloody spot on toilet tissue. I lost my husband 3 years ago (I am 52) and the idea of being intimate with someone new with those "companions" , was quite distressing, which is why I had the procedure done.

My experience so far has been uneventful, pain (mine is really burning/stinging, not achy) low but constant, which goes away if I take Tylenol and Advil, except when going to the bathroom. Then it feels like vinegar poured in an open cut, and even after washing, that pain lingers. I can't really imagine what hell it must be for those experiencing never ending pain.

Has your surgeon said the surgery would get rid of the tag? Is it just a tag or is it a prolapsed hemorrhoid? That could make a difference on your experience.

My bottom feels/looks worse now than before surgery, and I do hope it's temporary, as I've read. I am not sure if I'd go through that again, now that I know what recovery feels like, when my hemorrhoids were not causing me physical discomfort. I've described some of my experience under the" 24 Hours post hemorrhoidectomy " post, if you're interested.

@y69562 thank you for your reply and im so sorry to hear about your husband. Like you my reason is mainly down to hygiene its difficult to keep clean and can flare up from time to time causing discomfort. This is why im worried about messing with it causing more problems but my worry is that it will get longer its like a little finger poking out of my bum its horrible. Well the consultant said its a skin tag left over from a hemorroid that i had with both pregnancies. How is your recovery now? I will head over to read that post thank you

      hi Martine,

My recovery was much easier than most people here. My surgery was on the 13th, today is the 30th. I'm still swollen on my bottom and I won't be riding a bicycle any rime soon, but I'm mostly pain-free. BMs are a little uncomfortable, but nothing like the first week. I posted on the surgery, recovery thread, if you'd like to read more about my experience. There are so many truly horrific stories here, and it's wise to know how bad this can be, but there are plenty of us that had a different experience. I am hoping that the swelling will eventually go away entirely and my bottom will look normal, no more uninvited "visitors". Good luck to you!
