Anal soreness

Hello, I am suffering from excrutiating discomfort when passing stools. I have been using a cream for fissures which is not helping. Can anyone tell me if it is safe to use betnovate steroid cream, which I am already using on my vulva, on the anal area too? My appointment with the heamarroid Specialist is not for another two weeks and the thought of being frightened to go to the toilet is daunting. Thankyou.

I would check with your doctor because I was told not to use it on the anal region. I was told to use only a small pea size amount in the vulva region while slowly counting to 10. So hard when we get conflicting information from different places. But for sure check with your doctor before applying that to your anal region.

You have LS around your anus and your doctor told you NOT to apply the steroid there? What were you told to do about it? I was told specifically to apply to both areas as both had signs of LS. It cleared right away, but hasn't completely on the vulva unfortunately. Can't remember anyone reporting here that they were told not to apply to the anal area.

A hemorrhoid is essentially a distended vein that has popped out. Topical medications for them essentially shrink them. I can't imagine using the steroid on the surrounding area for such a short time if she is in pain can possibly do harm. Steroids are sold over the counter, after all.

I'm talking about Clobetasol steroid which is a very strong steroid. You have to be careful in using it. The Vulva Clinic where they deal with LS and where I went showed me where to use it and it didn't include the anus part at all. I also was not told I had LS in that area. I asked about it and was told no not to use it on the anus part. I'm talking about that steroid. So, I would advise someone, if they are using a strong steroid such as Clobetasol, not to use it in that area before speaking to their doctor first. It's only my opinion of course, but that's what I would do. I agree with Vickie that they are two different areas. If the doctor's office can't be reached perhaps ask a pharmacy. Treating a hemorrhoid is a different matter.

Apparently the steriod Betnovate I am using is quite mild, but strong enough I hope to give some relief. So frustrating and daunting that communication is not key amongst these prescribing professionals.

I have had a lot of issues passing stools as well. I found the cream for fissures made my sores burn and made things much worse. My LS usually flares up in my anus first. I use the Clob and it heals the sores within a couple of days.

Hi, I know how you feel, I was told by my doc to use it any where I had

a flare up. I have had Ls for a few years now and just been told I have Lichen Planus in the mouth. As for having a sex life my doc gave me numbing gel, which has helped me with going to the toilet as you can use it for rectal use too. Use as much cream as needed until it settles I was told. But ask for instillagel you wait 5 to 10 mins to numb . But it works for both. I now have a relationship with my partner all over again. Which was becoming to a stage it would not last. And having a numb bum for the toilet pain free.

LadyB, wouldn't numbing yourself and having sex lead to doing damage if the skin is splitting? Sounds sort of scary to me. Does the steroid cream not encourage healing? Are you using hormone cream as well or are you too young?

Hi all, well i had appointment with the gastro doc re my fissures. I showed him the letter from my gyne advising of LS he had a look and confirmed yes it was around anus but this would not cause so much discomfort inside as once again it was too sore for him to do a thorough investigation with his camera. He said I am to use the steroid cream around the outside and that he would arrange for me to have a general so he can look properly. He said if there was nothing to be found he would inject the fissures with botox to aid healing inside in order that I can go to the toilet comfortable and they can heal inside. its all so bloody worrying but I have to go with them and trust their expertise. Hopefully the steroid cream will help the raised skin to heal, the soreness in vulva and around anus has gone and the vulva definitely looks better. So a bit of positivity for now!!
