can walk fine in my boots but like you my big toes seem to have turned inwards. I thought it was my casts pushing them that
way. Still have another 2 weeks before next check.

i'm 4 weeks post op and have an appointment today. My toes seem to be doing that too. Don't know whether I'm having an X-ray or what. Find out when I go. But will certainly mention this.

Sorry for that. But yes how strange, but I do seem to have alot of coincidences. Anyway I have to say my foot looked really weird at 2 weeks but is now improving and looking a good shape. Big toe still a bit curved but no where near as much as at 2 weeks. Swelling can take s while to settle and foot continues to improve as u use it more.
I have discussed the possibility of having the akins procedure done as it was plus or minus on my consent form and they did not dot do it. But surgeon seems confident my foot will be fine.

I too have a curving toe on this r foot surgery. I fnd out they did not do the Akins and I am wearing bunion splint. My left foot was totally straight post op but was slightly different procedure and was fixed with several external pins and screws. My left toe has improved with the splint and as swelling has improved. I expect to improve further as the tissues heal. I talked abt it with my surgeon and it is possible to get the akins done as a separate procedure if the toe is under corrected. I hope not to have to do this. He seemed confident that it would settle as everything heals. I have posted pics on another thread and I can say the toe is straightening out. I did have a lot if work done on my foot.
Discuss options with yr surgeon he may be able to reassure you. It takes a year for full healing to take place.

To be honest, and not to worry you, this is not a good sign. I had a double bunion op earlier this year. One foot was a success, the other wasn't - but was undercorrected. Taking it that there wasn't a complication that prevented the surgeon from getting a good result, I think you need to see an x-ray to see if the operation has been performed properly. Although the op requires a fair amount of skill, anyone can look at an x-ray and see if the bones have been aligned as they should have been (which mine haven't).
I was told by the surgeon who performed the operation that the foot would straighten when the swelling went down but this simply has not proved to be the case and the reason for this is simple: it has not been done properly.
All the best

What has happened re unsuccessful foot are they offering more surgery or a 2nd opinion?
My surgeon had my akins down as plus or minus but then did not do it. He has said it could be done later and would be relatively small procedure if becomes necessary.
I have read about under corrections being performed and that is disappointing as the recovery from this op is lengthy.

been to my appointment today and the reason for the late reply is that I'm still in shock. I had an X-ray done then saw the consultant or doctor who works under my surgeon. She said "everything looks good what do you think?" I said yeh but I do have a couple of concerns. The quite prominent curve and the toes straying. So she showed me my before and after X-rays and yeh the surgeon has taken off the boney bit which is the hallux vagus and I could see the two screws he'd put in. She said the curve is just the shape of how your big toe goes. Some people have straight toes one don't. She said the curve might be a bit of tissue swelling but as far as I could see from the X-ray I don't think it's going to make that much of a difference. I have looked at pics online and seen a few with another pin or screw at the bottom of the joint of the big toe. If I would have known I might have suggested that to the surgeonI am a bit disappointed.
Then I asked if I would be given toe separators to wear so she said "oh you can buy them quite easily from boots or chemists." Obviously I had my surgery through Nhs.
Then I asked would I not see the surgeon at any point. She said "No you don't really need to see him" and that he would look at the X-rays later and everything should be fine and with that note I was discharged

I feel your frustration the tip of toe surgery is called Akins procedure. I had that done on left foot and not on my right foot. I am hoping the bunion brace will continue to straighten out my toe but I have discussed having the akins done if I am not satisfied. It is relatively small procedure on it's own. My first op was private this one nhs. It would be disappointing to have another op but like you I am concerned that a curving toe may cause a relapse. Having said that I have seen good improvement with the bunion brace. You need to speak to your surgeon.
