Ankle!!

So I broke my ankle June 23 and had to have the external fixation surgery and then I also had to have plates and screws out in there a couple weeks ago I went to my apt and they took X-rays and my fibula is still slightly cracked.... well the other day after I got out of the shower and tripped over my walker and caught myself on the bad ankle and I’m supposed to be non weight bearing! Has any body ever did that before because it hurts a little more then it normally did where the plate and screws are but I feel as if I was to rebreak it or break a plate or rip out a screw I would definitely be feeling a lot more pain I was gonna give it a week and if it’s still in pain call the doctor but in the mean time I was just curious for some advice!
And one more question where my bone popped out it’s still really tender and sore does that sound normal!

Trust me go to the doctor NOW and don't assume all is fine. When I fell in my bathroom after I had broken my ankle and was in a hard boot I thought no biggie....now I need a total ankle replacement 2.5 years later. Go get it checked out and ASAP = NOW

I definitely would advise you to see your doc. At this point you don't want to jeopardize your healing process by any means.
And yes (11 weeks post injury, 10 weeks post surgery) the area where my bone was popping out is still sore. It seems vey tender and it feels like the skin is super thin.
Good luck!

Hi,
?Where the bone popped out and is tender and sore, in my experience of broken tib/fib/ankle it can take a long time for everything to settle down. I had a really bad smash across by talus and I would say I can remember things being sore and tender for 6-8 months afterward....everyone is different but I would say that doesn't sound unusual.
?I hope you're okay after the slip - done that a few times and it scares me like mad!! my thoughts are, if you had done something really bad, you'd know about it. I slipped after my initial surgery and boy did that hurt but that was just the nerves being all jangled up so it can hurt like mad without it being damaging. That said, have you got any follow up appointments? It would be worth mentioning it so your Consultant can check for proper alignment and healing on the xrays. Good luck!!

You're doing the right thing
?It is so frustrating, especially if you're used to being fairly active - so I can understand the helpless/useless feeling....been through that a number of times over many years of surgery. What I will say, is it does get better! Early days of recovery for me were slow and awful but if I look back since the break (about 16 years or so ago) and a subtalar fusion in 2007 I've been doing lots of cycling, running and walking. Hang in there and good luck!

Went to the doctor and they said everything is fine I got great news the crack that was in the last X-rays were so visible this time they were cloudy and they said it’s because it’s all new bone growth so it’s healing I’m on my way to better days I think!!! FINGER CROSSED 🤞
