Ankle fracture recovery footwear

What are people wearing during ankle fracture recovery. I am struggling to find anything to help me.
My left foot is badly swollen and constantly in pain - under the foot as well as all around the ankle.

if possible stay off your foot for a week. use ice to control swelling and wheelchair to give the joint time to heal. i broke my foot last nov. was in a boot took it off hurt more with the boot . it took a couple of months until i could slowly begin to walk on it all day. keep it up on pillows to keep swelling down. one day at a time. i wore large slipper and socks my ankle was to swollen to fit in any shoe a slip on shoe was easier than a full shoe .

I am wearing 2 socks on my surgical ankle. The first layer is soft on the scar; the second layer is a compression sock. I have a pair of Altra sneakers that were a little too big before the accident. Altre has a large toe box and zero drop. They are my normal shoe of choice but this pair was just a little too big. I have worn those when I go outside. If I am walking on unlevel or grassy ground, I still use my boot. I tried to buy shoes to lift my non booted foot to the level of the boot but never really suceeded.

Hi Sam,
I have just been given the go ahead to start weight bearing being 6 and a half weeks post orif for bimalleolar fracture. Having had no real pain since 26th September whilst wearing the boot and elevating and doing gentle ROM exercises i started to weightbear yesterday. I kept my boot on the bad foot and wore a sneaker with a shoe leveller attached on the good foot. I was able to gently move with crutches with possibly 20% of my weight on my bad foot stepping through. i did this for about 1 hour on and off during the day and it didnt really hurt at the time, but i had to take ibuprofen and ice and elevate in the evening as my foot hurt so much by then. It was more swollen too. The doctor said it would hurt and i have been told to continue ROM when non weightbearing - I also massage my leg before pointing and flexing etc. I was very excited when i was told to weightbear and very happy to try some semblance of normal movement but felt quite despondent that such little 'walking' caused so much discomfort. However, it is progress and I hope you are having a little more success since you posted this. Good luck.
