What kind of problems are you having Nicolette? I’m also five months in with a double Subtaler joint fusion & ive had nothing but problems. I still can’t walk without pain. My ankle feels like it’s a mess in there & the Surgeon is telling me it’s not the screws. I have pain on the inside of my knee so bad that it keeps me awake at night. Almost like he didn’t properly align my ankle & it’s messing up my knee. I’m still on crutches & thank God for my knee scooter. It’s been a life saver. I went for a cat scan & will get the results on Nov 29 th. I’m really hoping something will show up why my ankle is still in so much pain. I need my life back as we all do. Try to keep positive but I know that’s a daily struggle.

Im sorry to hear you are having problems too..Im having alot of pain on the right side of my ankle and in the back of my heal.i had new xrays done, now my heal is tilted. My Dr. Says i might need another surgery.

also my toes are hurting my big toe wont bend at all.

The top of my foot is still little numb and i still have those pins n needles feeling..The inside of my knee hurts too..i can tell my alignment is off too..i wanted a ankle replacment. I wish id did that..My Dr talked me out of it.He said i was to young for one im 43 but i guess the lifespan for those are 10 years..heck id go back in 10 years to get another for sure.

    Hi Bob

I went over to the UK 2 years for a holiday and whilst there shattered my ankle.  This was 2 weeks before returning home to Australia. I was operated on and had plates and screws. I was in a right mess. Of course my flight home got cancelled and I stayed over in the UK for 3 months to recover because I was in a air boot ( camboot) couldn't walk without aid and was still in a wheelchair. I would ask your doctor what you should do. Safety first. Speedy recovery to you, Bob.

I was 18 weeks no weight bearing then two weeks partial and gradually worked to full weight in 24 weeks.  My suggestion to you is wear your boot wear compression Sox to help reduce swelling and use crutches.  Unless X-rays say otherwise the bones are still not properly fused and any weight could damage the operation..  I would also check with your surgeon and get his/ her opinion and suggestions as what you need to do it it is essential that you travel

    Hi Bob,

Everyone is different. I had a triple fusion about 3 months ago and have had very little pain. Will you be full weight bearing by your trip and how is your pain? My concern would be not being able to ice or elevate your foot on the plane. I could have traveled with my boot, but I don't know how comfortable it would have been. I would also check with your surgeon and physical therapist. Good Luck!!

      Hi

Thanks for the reply , I have had very little pain too . Think iam going to see how the next 2 weeks go and see what the consultant says . Most consultants say don’t fly for 12 weeks

    Hi Bob,

Flying with your air boot should be a breeze. I would take mine off the minute I took my seat.

Advice: before you even leave for airport, always have wheelchair requested every step of the way.

I called a phone number from their website under disabled or accommodations. I got one at departure dropoff and was taken to the gate! Felt like the Queen!

At your destination, have a wheelchair  waiting for you at the airplane door to take you wherever.

    Best of Luck and Blessings,

    Ali

      Sorry Bob,

Forgot to tell you that who I called to request wheelchair was my airline.

Hi I fractured my ankle and had surgery I was told by the consultant I would not be able to fly for at least 12 weeks.  Thankfully unlike you I had nothing planned, I would suggest that you speak to your consultant or one of their team for advice as everyone is different,  Good luck
