Hi

I have had an ankle fusion in April this year and all seemed ok. I hated and l mean hated wearing the boot it was the worst recovery l have had.

I had my 2 hips replaced and then a knee replacement. Recovered well from them.

The ankle l did the 4 weeks non weight bearing wearing and sleeping in boot.....terrible! Then l done 6 weeks weight bearing with boot. See when l was told l could take it off l could have cried. It was tendor for a while and sore but it got better through time. I am due to get my knee replaced on 21st of Nov. Suddenly my foot l got ankle fusion on get sore and swell up all the time.

I have told my doctor and he has told me to go in for xray before my knee operation. I am now terrified incase there is something wrong with my ankle. I am thinking abt the boot again. And thats me before l get knee replaced on opposite leg . Inside l am terrified.

I'm sorry that you're having these problems, but I'm really surprised that your weren't non-weight bearing for longer than 4 weeks. I was in a cast for 6 weeks, then a boot for four weeks. If you're only 6 months out from surgery I don't think it's unusual to be having pain and swelling. Keep it elevated as much as possible and ice it when you can. I also found a compression sock to help with the swelling. I only had one joint in my ankle fused but it was still a good 8 months before I was pain-free 75% or more of the time.

So sorry for your pain! I took was non weight bearing longer. I was 8 weeks then boot 6 weeks. 7 months post fusion and still having pain. Swelling is gone but had it for awhile. Sometimes when I do a lot little swelling. Hang in there and good luck!
