Ankle fusion recovery process

i had surgery in March this year due to a foot drop which id had for more than 10years. The pain and swelling have drastically reduced but not gone.

Most pain comes after being inactive e.g. when i sleep and have to go to the bathroom at night, the pain is there. OR If ive been walking, then i sit for a while and have to get up and walk again. Any idea on reducing the pain?

Ofcourse i had quite a bit of muscle atrophy from before and just wondering if that will ever go away & if ill ever regain my muscle form?

I did the surgery to reduce my limp & get a "normal gait" & strengthen my joint but it feels like the limp is worse than before. Any ideas on how to regain a normal gait?

im ofcourse doing therapy but i would love to hear from other people who have gone through similar experinces. My doctor says all this is to be expected owing to my previous condition and my other joints overcompensating but fails to be clear on pain and how long this will go on for. Any ideas are welcome at this point
