    Hi Shelly,

I had my left ankle fused 15 months ago and my advice would be:

Don't rush. Don't try to rush the healing process. It takes a long as it takes. You will need alot of help and support mentally as well as physically. Your mental health will take a big hit so try to find things to do that you enjoy that you don't have to move round much to achieve.

Take painkillers and anti inflammatories that you're doctor prescribes you.

Get some MBT trainers. The ones with a big rolling sole. These will be invaluable once you can bear weight on the ankle. They help replace the forward motion that would have been done in your ankle and take the strain off the rest of the foot joints.

    Good luck.

I am trying to load plenty of books onto my ipad, jigsaws, books and have tried to prepare myself physically by going to the gym. Mentally I know I will struggle as I am usually very active and busy. I appreciate your advice.

    What are MBT trainers?

MBT is a brand name for footwear that are designed with a sole technology that makes walking post ankle fusion much easier.
