Ankle Fusion vs Ankle Replacement

Posted , 1 user is following.

Hi

I am 61 and after 30 years of pain have reached that point to opt for surgery.

I first broke my ankle playing football when I was in my 20's and now have osteoarthritis in my ankle. I now also have pain in my back and knee. I do love sport having been a PE teacher and would love to enjoy walking the dog, cycling, playing tennis again and simply function without pain.

I need some guidance on choice between ankle fusion and the fact it is a permanent fusion but with some limitation on movement to ankle replacement that offers more movement but risk of having it replaced in 10 - 15 years and have been advised this secondary op is a more complicated procedure

Some questions

What other issues have you faced post op,

Pain in other joints?

Complications after surgery?

Has your arthritis moved to other joints because of a change in gait?

What factors helped you make your decision?

Anything else you think my help would be very much appreciated

Many Thanks
