ankle injury

I injured my ankle 11 weeks ago. had an x.ray and was told no fracture was showing and just to rest. I have 5 young children and need to drive often. I am still in considerable pain, and whenever I have been on my feet for short periods my ankle swells up and still bruises?? I have been back to my GP and been told I may have torn ligament and will refer me for physio! in the meantime, I am still in agony and cant understand why it should STILL be bruising after 11 weeks?? is this right?? x x

Unfortunately sometimes xray may not show fractures. Or some doctors may not be skilled enough to notice. Have you seen an orthopedic doctor? It it weird to still be having issues after 11 weeks if it was just a sprain. Or you havent been resting it enough and not giving it a chance to heal. Im sure others will chime in with better info but i would def go see an orthopedic specialist/surgeon.

It's got to be hard with 5 kids to be able to stay off your feet but I don't think that after 11 weeks that you should still be in agony.  I also think that you should see a specialist as you have waited long enough for relief.  When I broke a little tiny bone in my foot I was in a non weight bearing cast for 4 weeks and then went into a high hard plastic boot for more weeks.  No driving!  I think that while you are waiting to see a specialist you should be treated "special".  Play Queen Mother and have your hand maidens serve you while you sit with your foot up as much as possible.  Lean on your friends to drive for you.  Give them a grocery list.  Learn who are your real friends.  Perhaps a high boot like I had would work for you because your ankle would be stabilized and supported.  I had to sleep in it. grrrr.  Good luck.

Ligaments and tendons injures can be more difficult to recover.

Are you using any braces, wraps, can walker boot? If not why not?

PT will help but it sounds like you need to add some support. Are you icing?? Heat?? Over the counter pain relief??
