Ankle Pafter breaking ankle 6 years ago

I really need some help here. I am 12 years old and i broke my ankle about 5-6 years ago and to this day i still have chronic pain in the left ankle. I'll explain what happened so it may help someone who can help me figure out what's wrong.

about 6 years ago i was going to throw away a palm tree limb that had fallen down and i fell into a ditch which caused me to twist my ankle in a painful way. My family didn't think it was broken and just told me to wrap it and put ice and elevate it. They would also massage it in a certain way so my knots in my foot would relax. I would also do dance after school. I had been doing dance for 3 years at that time and would work 12 hours a week at dance. But after complaining for 2 years i went to a doctor and they only told me it was sprained and sent me to a specialist. I went to the specialist and all they told me was that I had broken it and that because i had been dancing it healed on its own and they told me that it was just my achilles that was bothering me and thats it. Now in between those 6 years. I've been to 3 different specialist and to the hospital more than 5 times. They all say that i sprained it or that it was broken prior to coming and that it healed. But it still hurts and I'm in a lot of pain and I'm just tired of it and i really need help. Someone please tell me what to do.

Sorry to here about your ankle pain 😞 i would get an mri or ct scan as xrays dont often show the depth of an injury. And being so young your bones are still growing. Hope you get some answers and find relief. Good luck dear.

Hi I forgot to mention that I did get an MRI. The last podiatrist looked at it and just told me that there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong and told me to get physical therapy but the place hasn’t called back in an entire year since it’s the only place that takes me insurance. It seems the doctors don’t really see anything wrong so I’m in just in constant pain and I’ve just been taking whatever medication the doctors prescribe for the pain but it doesn’t really work. I just don’t know what to do at this point

So sorry you are dealing with this at such a young age! I would recommend speaking to your parents again - they really should be helping you with this! Have them call the PT on your behalf, so hopefully you can start a program that may bring you relief. If they expect you to call, please call the PT back until you get a response. Hang in there!

I spoke to my mother about it and she says she’s tried calling multiple times and they have not responded. We’re going to try to look for another place that takes my insurance. I’ll just have to see what i Can do by myself in the meantime

If I were stuck in your situation i’d Try to get all the tests everyone mentions, but try the basic standard ice and elevation more than your doing. Also google alternative ways to reduce pain naturally. Maybe massage. Just give anything a try until you find something that can help.
