Ankle pain still there a year after surgery

Posted , 4 users are following.

I fell and chipped a bone 2 years ago, it took the doctors a year to find out that this was why my ankle kept giving way and eventually took me in to theatre to remove the piece of bone and clean up my ligaments.

Its been a year and I am still getting the same pain and symptons even though I was told I would walk out of the hospital same day, I was on crutches for 3 months.

Does anybody know of any medication I can buy OTC to stop this pain until I get to see a physio again or even a consultant

It would be unwise of me to recommend any meds etc. This forum is for those who have PMR.  Have you been back to your doctors or surgeon  or asked for a second option?

I have but they have told me I need more physio which will not happen now until after Christmas, as for pain relief they have me co-codamol which I can't take as they hurt my stomach and make me fall asleep and as I need to drive for work this is not good

Cocodamol is the best medication for bone pain. Am surprised that you find they hurt your tummy other than give you constipation. As they just consist of codeine and paracetamol. You will not be able to buy anything stronger OTC. Perhaps it would be best if you could get a second opinion or at least see if physio could be brought forward for you. Did you have physio before? You could try doing those exercises again and see if that makes a difference. Sometimes those exercises need to carried out ongoing to ensure that the muscles, tendons are stretch and exercised.

Maybe just take the pain relief at night rather than through the day.
