hello everyone back in may of 2014 I had type 3 ankle sprain I waited 3 weeks before going to emergency room had xrays and at that time was told to order a mri ,seeing how mri is considered nonemergant care i had to wait 2 more weeks to get into primary care physican at that time I was told I to give it time to heal and that I was getting older and it might take a little longer .So for the next year I endured the pain .In july 2105 I reached out to local foot dr who told me my ankle was working like a piston instead of ball and socket he ordered mri test resuts came back tear in tendons and ligaments surgey was needed .Late July I had total ankle reconstruction using alograft .after painfull surgery crutches the boot pt  loss of wages and recovery time I never felt any better but still had to get back to life ,every step painfll for another year in january I went back to foot dr who did surgery complaining of the pain another mri was done only to find out that the srgery was a failure and alographt had pulled away from the bone all my pain and suffering was all for nothing .as for now im doing pt 3 days a week to strengthen the ankle and ultra sound to help with tissue dammage .its not common for surgery to fail why it has im unaware of when it ever was fixed in first place ,theropist recomends a second opinion still waiting that appt and not looking forward to another surgery .has anyone out there reading this have a reconstruction fail and need a second surgery ? sorry such a hard read i ramble and dont know how to type so sorry for grammer and such

hello Tim thanks for such quick response .mri pictures show that my alograft pulled away from bone as well, can see the stretched out cadaver tendion in c shape off to side .I struggle every day and only can do so much thru the pain .physical theropist says ankle is not stable so most of what they can do for me might not help much at all .i failed to mention i had got about a month ago a cortizone shot in the ankle that has taken some swelling down but it actually did no good the pain from shot alone was horrific wont do that again ever .i gess i cant help but think about where surgery went wrong was i to blame it didnt heal or was dr at fault ot was alograft not good so many what ifs to have another srgery fail would be devistaing to say the least so confussed .either i live with the daily pain or keep trying ....sigh

I am sorry to hear all the pain you had to endure only to end up back to square one. This is what I worry about all the time. I fractured ankle in April 2016 and still suffer now with pain, excruciating at times. I have had an xray which shows bone healed but I think I need an MRI but scared I will need something done and dont want to end up back in a boot etc. But also dont think I can put up with this pain everyday for the rest of my days.

Jillian only you can be advocate for your own treatment looking back on my endevor I have come to realize not all drs know best if ur thinking something is being overlooked or that no one understands your pain then move on find a second opinion most drs think mri are to costly and wont place order for one .I was told several times to just give it time .....i knew i wasnt making any of my pain up and no improvement so ya dont let it go for too long like i had cause im finding out now i was only torturing myself with every step !
