Ankle replacement

hi- i am trying to choose between a star implant with UC SF chief of ortho staff surgeon who is very experienced versus an INFINITY prosthesis done by a CA doctor who's done 10-12 such operations. ive read the forums here and not very good sounding lots of post op problems and very long recovery. although the comments are from 3-7 years ago. im really scared of having an operation that i will regret! background: i have a ball-socket ankle joint that i fractured about 20 years ago, arthritis has set in. my pain is about 4-5 in summer and 7 in winter/rain/cold. also very painful bad when walking barefoot, or on uneven surfaces, or bearing weight (like grocery bags). i use an icepack to keep the daily swelling down, have tried cortisone with mixed results. i used to take ALEVE for pain but can only take Tylenol now because im on blood thinners, which has no real improvement against arthritis. im 65, average height and wgt. i don't hike, run or do anythi g strenuous. just trying to avoid pain. anyone who has any suggestions or experiences?

I agree go with as experienced surgeon as possible. In the UK there are many surgeons doing TAR surgeries and making a poor job of it which means a lot of grief for the. patient and a very costly revision if it is possible. I. know from bitter experience but was lucky to find a great surgeon to put it right after five years. Cheers, Richard

I am so glad you were finally able to get relief after 5 years. It is difficult to get a referral from a society for ankle surgery. They send you out on your own and anyone can give 5 stars on healthgrades ad others b/c the email is verified not that the person was actually a patient of the doctor they are reviewing.
My plan is to write very experienced DPM surgeons in other states to see if they will give me a name or two and f super TAR inbone durgeons in my area. Hopefully they will accept my minimal insurance. Cannot correct typos in middle of text. weird.
All the Best to you, Richard.

Richard,
Did I miss the name of your surgeon? Not sure you posted it. U live in Scottsdale, Az Phone x & surrounding areas would be great to find an experienced TAR surgeon.
Thank you,
Viki
