Ankle Replacement Surgery

I smashed my leg skiing one year ago. With PT and exercise, I healed well. But, thinking I could go back to all my activities, I complained that the ankle still hurt when I walk, but I power through it. My ortho surgeon referred me to an ankle specialist who said I was a good candidate for ankle replacement. I just turned 74 and am in good shape. I go to the gym and walk almost every day. The discussions I've been looking at here are mainly from 4 years ago. I'm concerned about the recovery and whether I'll really be relieved of the pain.
