Ankle Replacement TAA/TAR post op expectations

Posted , 2 users are following.

I've had chronic ankle problems resulting from sports injuries. I'm a 69 Y/O male living in Colorado with a history of sports injuries and other traumas. I finally went with an Inbone II system on Sept 16, 2019. I'm now 90 days post-op and still struggling with re-hab.

Based on the posts I've seen I should be happy with my status however I still can't walk in anything like a normal gait and have had several episodes of extreme (like a charly-horse) pain in the calf region (which sets me back at least a week) whenever I try to take too many long steps (like a normal gait).

Can anyone tell me if this is like their recovery? I had hoped to be walking much better by now.

I would appreciate anyone's experience with this. My PT person has been remarkable tolerant of my (seemingly) limited progress (I've already had a hip and knee replacement with fine outcomes). Thank God I have good insurance (still allowed to attend PT).

I'm hoping to be able to walk at least a mile comfortably May 2020. Am I dreaming or should I just keep pushing on and stop whining?

Cordially

i certainly didnt have ankle replacement like you just screws for fracture (3 places).

that was in the beginning of July and my gait still is not perfect.

Im 67 soon to be 68

Totally active up to fracture averaging 4 miles per day

I am back to my daily activities averaging a little over 2?miles per day

all that said Im not walking perfect Some days I am, others not so Im just happy to be walking again!

Im having long screw that goes through back of my ankle removed in January and that is supposed to improve my gait

I had good results with PT

All my best and Merry Christmas!
