Hi, as Richard said discuss with surgeon.  So many variables, the joint, any other injuries, your age etc. To give you some idea, had tibial-talar fusion 10 years ago. In cast for 8 weeks, non weight bearing for 12 weeks. Crutches then sick for a few more weeks. Spent first 4 weeks in bed with 'toes above nose'. You will need help. Get a knee walker, so much easier than trying to get around on crutches. I felt I was fully back to 'normal' at 12 months. Then had pain free, active for next 8 years. 9 months ago had sub-talar fusion. Similar timeframe for 1st 12 weeks, still have a long way to go. Older, different joint, makes it hard. Would do it again tho, as pain from arthritis was much worse.

      Dear Mammalu

A walker is fine around the ward and for limited walking once back home but not as practical as a pair of arm crutches or as helpful in making as quick a recovery as possible.

Glad that you are now back to normal.
