Ankle Stress hairline crack

I sprained my ankle from falling down 4 weeks ago. I went to doctor that day. He did an X-ray. Unfortunately it did not show any break. But doctor said there is a stress fracture (little hairline crack) in lateral malleoulus and talus of my right ankle. He put my ankle in a cast and said to come after 4 weeks. 3 days ago I went to him and he removed my cast. My ankle still swollen and brused (not much) and stiff. But there is not pain. He said that bones have healed and allowed me to mobilise my ankle and try to walk. But I can't even bear weight. It is really painful inside my ankle when I bear even a little weight. I am afraid of crack (injure) it again when I walk or bear my full weight. Maybe doctor didn't pay his attention to ligaments. I don't know what to do please give me advice?

    Hi WhizJoe,

Your doctor should have confirmed that you are good to go with walking on ankle with last set of x-rays they took of you. If hairline fracture is healed adequately you shouldn't have to worry about it (but don't push your luck with crazy and dangerous stunts like competitive running or skateboarding, etc.)

Your residual pain on weight bearing and walking is probably due to some unhealed soft tissue from your sprain trauma. With your problems (pain and restriction in movement) you need to be in ankle rehab to strengthen and stabilize soft tissue and ankle joint.

In worst case scenario, you may have busted some ligaments and tendons, and that calls for more specialize care.

Thank you for your advice. My another left leg also feeling a little discomfort. I walk and bear full weight on it, I am using only my uninjured leg because of crutches. And it also feels sore in my lower tibia of my uninjured(healthy) leg when I press it with my finger. But there is no pain and swelling and I can walk without problem. Is it a symptom of stress fracture or just overusing pain? What do you think?
