Ankle surgery

Posted , 2 users are following.

I’m 21, I broke my ankle in 3 places and had surgery just over 3 weeks ago. I haven’t felt much pain till now .. is that normal ? I’m just over a week now in a fiberglass cast

Also I feel like I can feel a screw in my foot .. is that normal too ?

I wasn’t told much about what kind of feelings I would be experiencing and I’m a little scared.

So sorry you broke your ankle.  I too broke my ankle in three places on September 7th.  All the things you described I felt as well, so I think they are normal.  I experienced very bad heel pain at first, then the "there is a screw trying to come out" pain. I think you will find that most of the various pains will come and go as you start to move the muscles in your foot and ankle.  Even though you are in a cast, wiggle your toes as much as possible.  My physical therapist also suggested I sit on the edge of the bed and alternately lift my legs as if I were marching. On the whole, it sounds like you experience is normal.  And your age is on your side--young people heal more quickly I think.
