Hi Nancy,
Yes! I had issues with the boot constantly rubbing my incision and they even tried adding an extra piece of padding, but it did not help. Honestly, I had to take the boot off just to give myself a little break from time to time. I actually layered a few large band-aids over my incision from time to time and it would help slightly. At night I ice the incision area (without the boot on) and then put the boot on and it seems to help a little, too. But I am now 6 weeks post surgery and I will say that the incision pain started easing up around week 5.

Hi Nancy, I am glad you were able to transit to a boot. I am 2 weeks away from it. I shall update you then. But, I am sure you will get over with it by then. So, are you partial weight bearing now ?

Hi Ravishanka,
I am 6 weeks post surgery and just this week, the OS put me on FWB with the boot for the next 2 weeks and then FWB without the boot moving forward. However, my appointment was on Tuesday (3 days ago) and I have yet to take a step without using my crutches with the boot. I'm struggling to put full weight. I'm anxious to see how everyone feels as they progress to various weight bearing levels. I start PT next week. In the meantime I have been doing lots of ROM exercises as my foot and ankle is very tight and I have absolutely no dorsiflexion. I'm worried but hopeful.

Hi ,
Usually from what I have read. After a surgery and 6 weeks of NWB. Taking a path of PWB and then FWB is suggested. ( Atleast to my knowledge). I am little surprised to see you are suggested FWB in the first 2 weeks, but I am sure it depends on type of surgery and how your x-rays are looking. And, as far as dorsiflexion is considered. This can be improved with weight bands, try buying different levels of weight bands and pull your toe area towards the shin. I see that you are starting PT. They will manipulate the foot and will help you put some weight on it. I am sure you will do just fine, Btw, what kinda surgery did you have ?

Hi,
I'm with you -- I thought I would start out PWB for a few weeks. But I guess I am PWB because there is no way I can do FWB, yet. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm looking forward to PT. And I have been using some of the weight bands you mentioned and they are very helpful.
Here are the notes from OS regarding my surgery. Basically, I had a large cyst inside my talus bone. It was a 5+ hour surgery.
(Left)Ankle Scope, Debridement
Medial Malleolus Osteotomy
Resection Talus Bone Cyst
Open Repair Talus
Osteochondral Dissecans
(Left)Iliac Crest Autograft Harvest
