Ankle surgery 8 weeks ago

I had ORIF surgery on my left ankle 8 weeks ago. I can start weight bearing as of two weeks ago. I am having a lot of anxiety about walking. When i try to walk my left foot wants to move but my right foot does not. Is this normal? it is very frustrating for me because I would love to walk again. Also, the side of my ankle is causing some discomfort. It is like something is pulsating? Maybe it is the hardware that was put in during surgery. Skin on my left foot is also dry and dark coloured and i am really not sure why. Skin is stiff as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Irene!

Are you attempting to walk with a walking boot on or without? I progressed from 2 crutches w/ boot on to 1 crutch w/ boot on to no crutches w/ boot on. Then it was the same but with no boot, 2 crutches to 1 crutch to none. The gradual process made it an anxiety free transition but regardless there is always a bit of anxiety. Just know that if you did your 6 week X-Rays and the surgeon gave you the green light then it is safe to put weight on it. Keep reminding yourself of this as you attempt to get your step on.

I used to have more pain on the inner part of my ankle. I thought it was for sure a plate or something and it was concerning but I do not experience that any more.

I also have discolouration and have seen many threads on the topic. I have no read into them as I am not concerned. I have asked my PT about it before and he said it was normal.

    Good luck

Do you mind letting me know how long it has been since your surgery? Thanks
