Ankle Surgery and fell down on CAM boot

Hello,

I had ankle surgery on 11/16/21 after breaking all three ankle bones and dislocating after missing our last 2 steps walking down out stairwell in the dark. Metal plate and lotsa screws to put me back together the whole shebang. I am just shy of 3 weeks post op. My doctor did not want to put on a hard cast so I just have dressings and a cam boot. I had an accident last night while my husband was trying to help me up after coming down our stairwell.(I scoot down on my bottom carefully and slowly). While my husband tried to gently stand me up once reaching the last step I slipped and fell and my Cam Boot came crashing down pretty hard. I banged the heel part of the Cam Boot forcefully then it slid out from under me and I landed on my back. Now I have pain shooting across the top of my foot a pain that I did not have before? Its tender to the touch & I hardly slept last night. I'm wondering if anyone has fell on their injured ankle/ CAM boot after surgery and if things were shifted/damaged? How protective is the CAM boot? I am so stressed & worried I’ve done some thing to the plate or screws and I will have to undergo another surgery to fix it. Yikes! Stay healthy everyone! Sending healing vibes to you all. -Kimberly

The advice I received after I fell was to go to emergency and have an xray straight away to prevent further complications.

I fell in my camboot attempting a step that was not fully flat and landed on Camboot/NWB ankle then knee going forwards. For reference i suffered a trimalleolar fracture with dislocation and hadan ORIF with screws and at the time i was 3 weeks post surgery and still had another 3 weeks of NWB to go. Just because i am extra lucky it was also late evening on boxing day. I was super hesitant to go in but was reassured by the ED doctor that it was the right thing to do.

For me it turned out to be nothing and hopefully everything is fine for you too. 😃
