Ankle Surgery Swelling after cast removal

Posted , 3 users are following.

I had an ankle fracture  ( Weber B stage 4 fracture ) which required a surgery, and they implanted 8 screw plate on the right side of right ankle and a screw and wire on the left side of the right ankle.

Its been more than 10 weeks since the surgery with 8 weeks of cast. Now there is still a lot of swelling and I still am not able to bear weight on the ankle more than 20-30%, if I try to put more weight its very very painful.

Would appreciate some support / guidance.

Thanks

    Hi

I am 19 weeks post op with a similar injury. I was non weight bearing for 8 weeks and then partial in a boot for 3 weeks then using crutches gradually coming off them. It took until 16 weeks when I could walk unaided.

My foot still swells up every night and is sore when been on it too much.

It is a long recovery and frustrating at times but you will get there good luck

    HI Manishs,

Sounds like you are right were your suppose to be with swelling. I"m further out than you and still swell daily. I still elevate daily and sometimes icing.

Is your cast still on? What does your doc say?

Did he start you on PT?

These are all things he will let you know when its time.

    Slow recovery. sadly...

    Try to hang in there!

      Hi Rose.

?The cast was removed after 8 weeks and its been 3 weeks of PT. Every day it seems to be a struggle with swelling and pain on putting weight.

I do ice pack on ankle for 3 times a day and ankle mobilisation exercises & the pain killers .

?The Doc had said full weight bearing after 2 weeks of removal of cast.

      ?So hanging on....
