Anorexia and alcohol

I suffer from anorexia and only drink skimmed milk lattes throughout the day and drink 3/4 bottle of wine every night to help me sleep. So I am asking - does drinking alcohol when anorexic and severly underweight affect your health. eg kidney/liver function?

I used to have my bloods checked every few months because I was very low in Vitamin D and anemic. I had iron infusions and was put on Vitamin D tablets for 12 weeks to top both up. My current BMI is 12.

Hi - sorry to hear about your difficulties.
Drinking this volume of alcohol is unhealthy at the best of times, including on the liver. I would check the NHS guidance on the number of units you should consume per week.
With an eating disorder your organs will be suffering due to the lack of nutrition so the alcohol will be making it worse.
I would definitely be making an appointment with your GP to talk through this and help you can get. It may be worth getting a referral to a drug and alcohol service if you feel the wine is an addiction. I definitely think your first port of call should be a referral to a specialist eating disorder service.
Help is available, have you tried calling the Beat helpline (Beat are the UK's eating disorder charity)? This is a free, confidential phoneline and is open every day from 12pm - 8pm weekdays, and 12pm - 4pm at weekends. If phone is difficult for you, you can use the 1-2-1 online chat, twitter and email. There are also moderated online support groups which run every day of the week.
Hope this helps.

I don't want help for my ED. Re the wine, I am not an alcoholic as sometimes I have not drank it for weeks. I really just drink it because it helps me get to sleep.

43 - and I have had anorexia since I was 12 and had in-patient and out-patient therapy and nothing worked. So I have learned to live with it.
