Another month on 10mg

Posted , 4 users are following.

Saw the doctor yesterday and was advised to stay on 10mg for another month. Doing fairly well into week 4, but still battling with a bit of nausea. Sleep still not great and waking too early. Did anyone notice an improvement in low mood at just 10mg? Am happy to follow the instructions given to me, just assumed I would be up to 20 mg next week. So on I go, pushing on till the 8 week mark and my next appointment.

20mg is the usual dose and your doctor is easing you up onto it.  You might have some side effects when you increase, but don't worry as these do all disappear eventually.  I had nausea, lack of sleep etc but as said, it will wear off.

I have taken 10mg for years, but that was only after being on 20mg and recovering.  10mg (and even 5mg now) helps to maintain my mood.

It's a tough journey, one that takes months.  The medicine is building up in your system and you will eventually feel the benefit in time.  It's a great feeling when it does.

Thanks Katy. Happy to sit out the side effects as I'm sure they will settle with time. So I will continue with the 10mg. How long were you on the 20mg? Dr did say that many people respond positively to 10mg, although the benefits may just take a little longer to kick in.

Thank you David. Accepted and hopefully advancing. Following instructions to a T. Hope your mouth is feeling better and you're enjoying some family time. Take care. Lee.

I started SSRI's many years ago and I went straight onto 20mg and took it for 10 years possibly, then reduced it to 10mg and stayed on that for another 5 years.  I came off it 2 years ago and felt ok (with the help of over the counter meds) but restarted Cit last year due to the stress of family illness.  Have reduced it again and am now on 5mg.

Yes I think people do yes respond well to 10mg but it could take longer to reach the maximum effect maybe?

Ive ve been well all the time - took a while to get there, but worth the wait.

Thanks for the info Katy. That is what my Dr said...10 mg can work well, just may take a bit longer to get there. Don't really mind though as long as it works eventually. Glad to hear you have done so well. Great stuff! Thanks for sharing your story, because if this works, which I am so hopeful it will, I think I will stay on it forever. Thanks again, Lee

Everyone is suitable to different doses and meds, and you're doctor seems to know what's best for you.  Sounds a good doc!

Thanks - yes I've been well for so long now it's great!  Depression is such a horrible illness.

Keep going - it gets easier, if it does take a while.

      K :-)
