Hi all, it’s been a while since I’ve visited this site. I had a hip operation a couple of years ago (hip realignment) the following year I had the metal work removed. Now I’m having to go back in for more surgery as I have a labrum tear.. has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi,

labrum tear repair is for shoulder . This is the hip forum . Post this in the shoulder surgery forum.

I wonder how how the hip realignment surgery is now? Just curious if you cauld talk about the proceedure you had and why ? Was hip osteotomy included as well as the cause for hip realignment is usually dysplasia? How long was your rehab and are you happy you did the proceedure.

THR has given me a better quality of life & have had 2 THR & 1 revision. I am very fortunate to have had the THR option.

Good luck on the upcoming surgery!

    Peace and healing!

Labels tears in the hip are a real thing.  I saw mine in my MRI and the doctors I’ve seen speak of it as a common, though more recently recognized, medical issue.  They are harder to diagnose than shoulder.  Google labral tear hip & you’ll learn more about.

many here will agree as hip surgery has some difficult issues to overcome. All three of my hip surgeries had I band tears very painful and also broken femur and  greatertotchanter. None of which showed up in X-rays or MRI's and nuclear MRI until revision surgery when a number of issues were found including pseudotumors, necrosis and metal corrosion. All blood tests showed high levels of chromium and cobalt contamination.

This may not have any bearing in your situation but thought I’d share.  I have a labral tear also, most likely caused by arthritic wearing.  I have been advised not to have the tear repaired because I would still have an arthritis joint.  My PT told me that most people who have labral  tears repaired end up going in for hip replacement a year or two later.   She also said that the repair is rough to get over, moreso than replacement.
