Another Ovarian Cyst or Cancer???

So for the long post!

I had an pelvic ultrasound and internal scan done at the end of February which confirmed a 7cm water cyst on my left ovary. I went to see a gynae last week and after he gave me an internal examination (was on my period too...urghh) he said that he couldnt feel anything nor was there any tenderness. My symptoms at that point had improved although my tummy still felt off and my bowel movements were still all over the place - however I was relieved that it had gone. The next day I started to get a digging pain in the same area which has been constant, my abdomen around my belly button is tender and feels off, I am now also getting lower back/hip ache which is making my right thigh ache too.

Did anyone else have these symptoms?

I went to see my GP today and she wants me to do a blood test to check my CA125. Really scared and getting stressed out now. She is also booking another ultrasound for around two weeks time.

Is it possible for another cyst to form so quickly and whilst still on my period? Feeling anxious that it might be cancer. sad

If anyone else has had anything similar to this please let me know. Many thanks x

Hi Susie27. The cyst is very likely to be a simple (non malignant) ovarian cyst but any cyst over 5cm is at risk of torsion (twisting around the ovary and cutting off the blood supply) which is a potential emergency.

The symptoms you are having sound related to the cyst. A Ca125 tumour marker is a routine screening test for any ovarian cyst over a certain size- can I ask how old you are?

Repeating the US scan will determine if there has been any change to the size of the cyst. If it is getting bigger and you are still having intermittent pain, the recommendation may be to have a laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy which is a quick, day case operation to remove the cyst. I would recommend seeking immediate medical attention if the pain becomes very severe and/or you are unwell. Hope that helps.

Aww thanks for your reply! I am 39 years old. My gynae gave me an internal examination last Tuesday and couldnt feel anything at all which is a bit strange and because my symptoms had lessoned he felt as did I that the cyst had disappeared. Now my symptoms back again though I don't have the cramping but instead have like a digging pain in the left groin and aching lower back, pelvis and right thigh as well as a feeling as though someone is poking my tummy button.

It could well be yet another cyst, though I didn't think they could grow that quickly. rolleyes

I'll see how the blood test turns out and wait for my scan date to come though.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help! smile

i guess it was there all the time.

was your gynno a rookie or what.

apart from that you seem to be getting looked after very well.

after theCA 125 test result, you will feel less stressed.

    i wish i had your doctor !
