another question about pain medication

Hi dear friends ...

I have been reading all these posts about pain medication ... it seems that most of you take them at night ...

Also on different meds than you ...

so this is my question:

do you also take them in the morning, during day time (I am not talking about paracetamol) - I am on Celebrex (have been on others as well), 2x2 100MG per day - like everyone else, I would love to take less or none at all - I tried it and oh boy ...could barely move around ...

However, I don't have pain during the night - GP told me to take it anyway because of keeping the level which he thinks is important ...

Also need to mention that it is my other hip that hurts (Will need THR very soon) and not my operated hip (except for some discomfort some times) -

what do you do?

well, it will be a rainy Sunday here in Holland ... Wimbledon men's finals and then what ????

warm hug

renee

As I have posted already I was on cocodamol 30/500 morning and night with paracetamol during the day. Tried going off cocodamol yesterday but will be back on them today. Nurse had told me to take them 4 times daily and take something for bowel but I'd rather not. Rain here too. I'm afraid to go outside on crutches in the rain so its up and down my hall today again. Enjoy Wimbledon.

    Hi Renee,

I take Naproxen 1 in a morning and 1 at night and done't take anything during the day.Trying to lie on my side is a bit painful too from my other hip, so I seem to end up on my back dozing as befoe. xxx

Hi Gill ... Okay, so you do take one in the morning then ... actually that is what I meant - I also was advised to take 600-800 mg of paracetamol in addition to Celebrex ... seems a lot ... fortunately, so far, no problems with bm's -redface

I lie on both sides now but find myself more comfortable laying on my back ... go figure ! when I was not supposed to I couldn't ...

is the other hip your operated hip ? There is a soreness, some kind of pull - is your pillow high enough? If possible, try to find the right height ... at some point I had a wedge and a pillow between my legs - made a difference ...

      warm hugs

I can't lie on either side for long Rene, my operated side hurts after a few minutes and my unoperated side is awaiting referral to the Consultant smile so is also uncomfortable after a short time. So my back is the favourite position.

I was also given paracetanol to take 4 times a day and co-codamol 4 times a day but I haaven't had the need to take either.

Bit damp here but looking forward to the tennis this afternoon.

    Hi Renee,

I got myself more or less off of medication because Injust hate not being able to tell whether or not I'm really pain free or if it's rhe meds doing it.

I stilk take the occasional paracetamol and ibuprofen, little more often as I'm moving towards getting the other hip done as that side is acting up more now.

On the whole though, I only take night medication when the day has been a little too busy.

Can't tell you more than that really. 😕

    Hey Renee,

Big hug, but sad Murray not in final today!

Only help a little here - my GP said always take the paracetemol at night like yours did, and I did so for 6 weeks. I imagine you take the drugs you nee dfor as long as you need: seems silly to stop if you are in pain?

Sorry re your other hip -but sound seem like once that is done blue skies will truly beckon, with or without agreyhound!

Some pain killers work in different ways. Ibuprofen for example you keep taking till it gets to a level in your body. If you stop taking it it can take a while to disappear which is often while you feel ok for a couple of days then start to ache and why you have to stop taking it at least 5 days before an op.

I think paracetamol and codeine don't have this lasting effect so you can take them on and off more, though with codeine if you have taken it a while you can get withdrawal aches and flu

symptoms so have to cut the dose gradually.

I have never taken celebrex so don't know what type of protection it offers but maybe with the doctor saying to keep taking it it is like ibuprofen. It is a non steroidal anti inflammatory which suggests that might be the case.

    Hi Renee,

I am taking Mobic long term for my arthritis and paracetamol 4 x a day.

since my surgery I take a slow release Targin morning and night. Pain team in hospital put me on these after surgery, GP just gave me another months worth to see me through. I also have endone for when required. Initially I took these 4 x a day now I take them rarely, last time was after physio!!!

I take movicol and coloxyl for my bowels. I prefer this to being in pain. Pain is not useful in recovery so I have taken medications when needed

Before my surgery I also had a weekly 5mg norspan patch which was excellent, took the last one off yesterday.

its a juggle, I'm hoping to just be on Mobic and paracetamol in a few weeks.

    enjoy Wimbledon.....with pimms and strawberries??

    Good Morning renee

I take both co codamol and oramorph even though I am almost at 13 weeks post op. This is because of the collapsed hip and oh boy it is getting worse as the days go by.

I take 2x 30 / 500 mg co codamnol every 6 hours.I take 3 ml of oramorph as an when I need it I can take that every hour if I need too. But I wait till the pain gets too much for me to bear any more. The left hip ( operated side ) is hurting when I sit down now and again. But I am seeing my consultant again this coming Thursday so will be mentioning it.

    Hugs to you x

    Hi Renee,

I think there are some drugs that need to be taken regularly to be effective, and maybe Celebrex is one of those drugs? Maybe not like paracetamol or ibuprofen that can be taken for temporary relief.

Is Celebrex a NSAID? Do you have to take any tabs to protect your stomach.

Looking forward to Wimbledon later today. Come on Roger?! Enjoy it, Renee.

Next weekend we have the Davis cup to look forward to.

    Love, Anna x

Keep taking the meds as your gp has recommended. You may feel you don't need them but as you've already shown yourself when you skip doses you hurt. Its easier to prevent pain than cure it.

Thank y'all   .... I was given Celebrex in the hospital .. was a bit nervous because there was some kind of recall of this med .. I was not on it at that time but remember as the commercials were withdrawn - something with heart failure -...lots of meds commercials in the USA ...I mentionedit to surgeon and also GP bu they just raised their eyebrows ... it seemed to be solved or not as bad as thought ... the occasional fatal reaction !!!!

I am allergic to Ibuproven - rapid heart beat and major head aches -

will continue to take them as prescribed .. maybe just take one instead of two at night ...

good afternoon for watching Wimbledon ... all in all, very exciting matches ...
