Correction, should have read how it can be. My recovery twenty years ago was much the same and the surgery used the posterior approach.

      Cheers

Hi Chrisa, that's wonderful news, so glad for you too. I also had Anterior THR last June and even though I am walking unaided and back to work full time, I still don't feel like I am back to normal. I have had issues with stiffness and nerve pains recently. You are really lucky to have the outcome that you've had...enjoy!

Hi Chrisa hate to put adowner on your excellent recovery but I think you are heading for a fall, in all honesty 12 days is way to early to be as you say back to normal, if you were unable to walk unaided before then yes possible but if not and yoy are weight bearing fully without using aids in a while your prosthetic hip will drop further into the femur because it isn't healed even remotely and will not be able to cope, have you just had a sliding screw or full hip replacement?? Its OK to think its great at the moment but buyer bewaresad sorry for my bluntness

      Dear Alexandria

Interesting post and yes I agree that one should not throw caution to the wind just because after just a few days we may be walking without aids or pain.

Dislocation is not far away as firstly ones bones need time to grow into the prosthesis to make them secure and muscles need to regain their strength so that the hold the ball in the cup securely.

As regards to the stem moving down into the femur perhaps in cases of weak bone or in a situation where the surgeon has not done their work sufficiently well and the stem is not a firm fit. If there was an expectation the the stem was at risk of moving downwards then one would not be encouraged to be weight bearing as soon as the surgery was over.

      Cheers Richard
