Hi. Had posterior RTHR on June 19th and it's more prominent on that side than the other. My hip circumference has increased (temporarily I hope!) by a couple of inches. This is only due to post op swelling and tissue trauma and should reduce to normal in a few weeks. Hope you're doing ok otherwise - i surprise myself every day by how much more I can do and how much better I can walk four weeks on.

Hi.. I can see what u describe. It u have serious concernes pain accompany the hip hot ot can't put UR weight on UR leg then call UR doc.. Sometimes the swelling from surgery looks odd and puffy. Once it calms down the hip swelling subsides.

Child ice packs at several intervals during the day help as well as meds from.UR doc .

    hope u feel better soon.

    hi william

yes mine dose i have had two in the last 7 months and both times  on the same leg i was told there is nothing to worry about its down to the size of the femur head they put in if they put a smaller head in then its more prone to it popping out or dislocating it or coming loose this is why i had the second done it came loose.

if you are not still sure ask you surgon to explain im sure he will tell you the same but you no what surgon's are like i felt i was just been fobbed of the first time till he lifted my leg up and found out it had come loose all because it was a small head plus if you are of a small body frame you notice it more as i am i have lost so much weight through the pain i was getting from the first hip replacement.

but i got a second opinion from another hospital and it was the second one that picked up on why it came loose now i had my second op in may this yr and the one hes put in is still petruding but this is why i asked him why and thats what he told me plus my first one was not cemented the second one is if you are still not convinced do what i did get a second opinion im not saying this is why yours is but i do have the same as you .

    hope this helps you

    good look keep us posted.

Mine too. It is not a precise science clearly.   Also inthe posterior procedure the abductors are cut as well as the underlying muscles. I have a hollow compared to the other side and cannot even lie on operated side as it is proud. So very asymmetrical.  Very gung ho they seem to be in the cosmetic outcome. What is cut cannot be sewn back to original state. Some tissue must be sacrificed and if youre slim then its very noticeable. Im 9 months on and still feel the soreness under the skin which appears to be adhesion. God knows who does the stitching. The surgeons minions probably long sighted and that means no attention to the delicate detail. Also we can never find out how it looks below the surface. Some stitches in the procedure will be non dissolvable and if youre slim youll feel it as I can. Scar still livid.  Id love to know who sewed me up. Male probably not a seamstress nimble of fingers etc! Oh you have to laugh (rictus smile)

Well you certainly have a good sense of humour about the end result...but all in all you are at the mercy of the doctors/hospital.  After getting a referral to my specialist (had to wait l year), I saw him for exactly l.5 minutes on first and only visit before surgery.  Of course saw his underlings and the OT, nurses, etc. but he is so busy he does not have time to talk to his patients (teaching hospital in Toronto)...so I'm hoping I have a good outcome for my first THR as I'm sure I'm not going to get too much of his time should things go astray!!!!  I'm trying not to dwell on that outcome and hopefully like the majority of people reporting here mine will go well...if not at least I have this forum to seek support from.

I had both hips done at different time, the right posterior does not show at all but the left anterior does not exactly protrude but i can really feel the implant...weird.   Other than that no pain and all is back to normal.
