    HI, Liz,

I'm 67 and had my op in July.  I had a TAH.  My doctor said take it easy.  No lifting of anything heavier than a half a gallon of milk for the first 6 weeks, no house cleaning, either.  Walking should be okay, but don't overtire yourself.  If you had keyhole surgery remember that your exterior incisions will heal faster than your internal ones.  At my 6 week checkup he told me to increase my activity a bit, if I wanted, and that I could resume "normal activity" in another 3 weeks.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Liz

If you had an abdominal procedure your recovery will probably take a bit longer.  I was lucky enough to have mine done vaginally and so there's no external would to heal.  If you had it done vaginally just beware of doing too much too soon.  When I was 1 week post op I was doing short walks with no problem.  Because I had no pain from day one I forgot how major the op is.  I certainly did too much and at 2 weeks post op I twisted awkwardly when bending down and obviously split stitches and caused a heavy bleed in the afternoon which was very frightening.   I had to rest completely for two days to allow it to settle down. I Googled my procedure - I also had an anterior repair - and was surprised to see how much stitching there is down the vagina.  I then realised how careful I had to be.  But like you I was very fit before the op (I'm 63 and under 8 stone) and I was able to return to gentle jogging at 6 weeks post op and I'm now back to my usual running routine.

I would just say be extremely careful during the first 6 weeks.  They tell you not to lift but you should avoid any stretching or twisting while the stitches heal.  You will be back to normal very soon.  If you find it hard to sit around try and read or, as I did, write a novel!  I had always wanted to do this and the six weeks of resting gave me the opportunity to do it!

Best of luck and keep us updated

Thanks Shani, it's good to hear how you got on. I also had the op vaginally but like you haven't had much pain. I find it hard to sit around and rest!! After hearing you split stitches after 2 weeks I will now be extra careful! When you said you did short walks how long were these? How long since you had the repair.

Great to hear you got back to normal after 6 weeks .

      Hi Liz

I had my op 18 months ago and was very apprehensive but was amazed how painless it was.  I was going for walks at a week post op of around half an hour altogether I suppose - flat areas and no hills!  I did actually find standing for any length of time worse.  My partner and I went out one day to a stately home and wandered around there but it was the standing that was the most uncomfortable, so I would try and avoid that.  Because of the bleed I had I didn't do much else other than the short walks up to the 6 weeks post op.  I then had gentle jogs until I had my post op check up and progressed from there.  I was told that I should always avoid lifting too much and anything strenous, even after the recovery period, as I believe there is a risk of damaging the repair.

      Good luck

.......but do remember to rest properly each day i.e. with your feet up reading a book or something.  It's difficult if you are used to being active, but worth it to avoid problems.

Thank you so much for all the advice, it's great to hear how much to do to be safe. I am being very sensible and putting my feet up quite a lot. I have heard of a few people who have split stitches and a friend of a friend who split her stitches 8 weeks after her op and had to go back in and be restitched and then rest for a further 6 weeks!!

      Take care of yourself too

      Hi, Shani,

I had a robotic procedure, and I've noticed that my inside stitches are starting to "pull."  I'm not overdoing it; I'm moderately active during the day, but I do spend lots of time with my feet up, too.

What do you think about this?  I'd appreciate your input.  Thanks! xx

Also should have said that I had my op on July 18, so I'm almost 2 months out.  Thanks!

You will find this from time to time it's nothing to worry about I still feel mine pulling even now every now and again and I had mine last Nov

      Hi Lynda

I was lucky in that I didn't really feel mine at all, except when I had the bleed and so I was pretty sure that I had pulled them. I would think that if you're not bleeding and it's not painful, just uncomfortable, then the pulling feeling will disappear as the stitches dissolve. But if you're worried then I would call the doctor or the gynae ward where you had the op. I'm sure they will be able to reassure you that it's nothing to worry about.  I see Caroline has said she gets the same feeling.

      Best wishes

      Thanks, Caroline!

I am anxious to get on the other side of this, so when I have something else happen I tend to worry.

well, I didn't get to finish my response.  I appreciate hearing from you--I meant to say, I'm not too worried now.  I had the first "tugs" last night and in the shower today, so that's why I wrote in.

      Take care!
