Anterior THR 11/7/17 12 weeks post op

I’ve joined the forum after reading some very interesting stories but haven’t exactly seen what I’m experiencing. I was a very active person pre-surgery only giving in when I could no longer handle the pain. Had Right leg Ant THR. At 6-7 wks post op I was doing great, no pain, no walker or cain, moderate walking & stairs ok. At 8 wks I suddenly developed excruciating pain in the middle of my upper thigh when walking and quad muscle flexed with each step. Given a steroid pack but didn’t help. Saw Dr @ 10 wks where he did an X-ray to rule out all the bad scenarios & decided I had either a quad muscle strain or tear that could just happen without necessarily doing anything to cause it. More rest, Ice & no exercise except moderate walking as tolerated. I’m now 12 wks post, quad pain is going away and I’m thrilled!!! However it appears I’ve exchanged quad pain for groin pain when walking. Other than before surgery my groin pain disappeared @2-3 weeks post op. Anyone have something similar or any insight appreciated! Will see Dr again in 10 days.

Thank you for your suggestion. Generally the ortho Drs in our area who perform anterior & posterior THR have PT after surgery teach us exercises at home only. Knee replacements go to PT after. I had to quit home exercises as they were inhibiting my progress early on & only recently do moderate walking & quad stretches laying on my stomach which help some. I will definitely look into seeing a PT about my gait. Thanks again!

It took over 2 years to get to surgery as couldn’t get my pain diagnosed until a couple months before but agree the way I was walking especially 6 months prior certainly didn’t do me any favors & most likely are causing some of my difficulties healing. As of today, my pain seems to be lessening but not as on target as I’d expected to enable me to return to work. I’m praying time will help! Best of everything in your recovery as well!
