if I remember correctly I too was given some kind of long acting antibiotic during the surgery, (so we don't have to worry about it later) purely preventative from my understanding.

With super virus being endemic it's probably illegal not to give antibiotics, especially at such a big hospital like Guy's.

I am allergic to penicillin and it's relatives but still had to have something. They gave me a big dose during the surgery and I didn't have any on the ward.

If you know what ward you were on you could try ringing them and asking about your medication history? I don't know, just a thought.

Do you feel sick/feverish? If so you should probably ring your doctor.

Everyone gets a canula, to make it easy for them to administer any drugs needed, such as antibiotics, also morphine, or to transfuse blood back into you from your drain collection.  Mine stayed in the back of my hand until discharge for both operations.  It saves them having to try to find a vein if you need something in a hurry.

Yes I am aware of all that , I am unsure if I was given antibiotics and was wondering if others were ? :-)

prophylactic antibiotics are usually given at some point at, during or after surgery. The cannula allows administration of any drugs IV, antibiotics could have been given that way or IM or orally.

I am pretty sure I had some antibiotics, as well as my own blood from the wound drain collection.

I don't recall if they gave me antibiotics or not. But they did use the cannula to help increase my blood pressure as it was too low.
