Antibiotics working in half an hour?

I had a lump under my arm which was progressively getting more and more painful. It fluctuated in size and yesterday I started experiencing some very sharp pains in the area, so I went to the doctors. They prescribed me with antibiotics as they said the area seemed slightly inflamed, figured it was mildly infected, and since I'd had it about 2 weeks they said if it's starting to hurt they'll try and clear it up for me asap. All day today up until my prescription the lump has been quite tender to touch and moving my arm too much has caused a pain through it, but half an hour after taking my antibiotic, the pain has pretty much subsided and the lump feels like it's gone down a bit. I'm not sure if this is even possible, if it's my imagination, or just a coincidence. Can antibiotics work that fast? Up until yesterday, it was never super painful, but usually holding down on it for too long would make it hurt, but it's not at the moment.
