anxiety

Been back to the GP today as I get a few good days and then I am back being an emotional wreck.

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid 12 weeks ago and my blood has been chemically normal for 7 weeks.

Because of this the GP is sure that my anxiety is due to depression rather than being hyper. He says that I feel anxious because I have never been ill before and it has made me nervous. I get anxious and don't like going out incase I feel ill and can't get home. Feels very similar to how I did at the start of being hyper!

He has put me on citalopram.

Anybody had a similar experience?

Hi Linda. Sorry you're not feeling very well. I had stress and panic attacks for a couple of years.I felt hyper, had a lot of the symptoms, but still my blood tests were coming back normal. Then a few weeks ago the levels suddenly shot up. I've felt much better and calmer since I started on Carbimazole and Propranolol. I think doctors take too much notice of the blood tests, and too little notice of the symptoms.

When I first went to see my GP about it a couple of years ago I'd just lost my mum, so of course he said it was caused by stress and anxiety. I was frightened to go out too incase I was ill

You're bound to feel anxious and nervous when you're ill, it's only natural.

Could you get your appointment with the endo brought forward? He might have more idea what's going on.

    Hope you feel better soon.

    Thanks Marigold.

Hadn't thought about getting the appt brought forward!

Anyway day 2 of the anti -depressants. It takes at least 5 days for your body to adjust. Initially you feel worse!

Hi Marigold and Linda, I first went to the doctor with anxiety and panicky feeling and when he did routine blood tests it showed an overactive thyroid. He thinks my thyroid may have been the cause of a lot of anxiety over the years, I had never had my thyroid checked before. I too have never been ill before and this illness now has caused me to lose confidence. I think that although the Carbimazole and Propanolol has helped, it will still take time to settle down and feel safe again. I do go out normally but worry in case I get migraine aura while I am driving. I suppose the only thing to do is just go a reasonable distance from home. The only medication I take for the anxiety is the Propanolol and it helps such a lot. I hope you are both feeling much better soon. This is a horrible thing isn't it, I don't think people who haven't had it know what its like ! All the best, Bess.

Hi Linda and Bess. I hope you soon feel better on the anti depressants Linda.

Bess, I had migraine aura for a few weeks. It started mid morning every day, and lasted most of the day. It is frightening if you're out somewhere and it starts. I was trying to read one day and the first letter was missing from every word. Sometimes I could see half of everything. Very strange. It stopped when my thyroid levels got back to normal. I have suffered from migraine for a long time, but not as bad as it has been lately.

It is a horrible illness. Someone asked me the other day what symptoms I have. It's hard to describe, and she looked at me as if to say 'what's she making a fuss about'? You're right Bess you have to have it to know what it's like.

    Take care both of you.

    Marigold.
