Anxiety about sleeping, only slept about 2 or 3 hours in the last 48 hours

(Sorry for any grammar mistakes - I'm really tired and sleepy and can't think straight)
For the last couple of nights I've only slept about 2 (maybe 3?) hours in total... Last night I didn't sleep anything at all... I'm so tired, can barely keep my eyes open, but I still can't fall asleep, probably because my anxiety is through the roof... My heart started to beat so fast when I was trying to sleep last night and it was beating really fast during the whole night as I was so scared I wouldn't be able to fall sleep... I tried to think about other things instead of worrying too much about falling asleep, but that didn't help... I also tried doing breathing exercises, watching relaxing rain videos on YouTube, watching a funny TV-show, etc, but nothing worked! I'm just so scared right now! I usually don't have problems with sleeping, so I don't know what's going on ): I'm dreading going to sleep tonight as I'm so scared I won't be able to sleep tonight either! I'm so scared this will make me go crazy! What should I do??? Any tips on how to not worry about lack of sleep? I'm literally freaking out! Please give me some advice!

Hi Anne. i know and understand exactly how you feel. firstly anxiety is exhausting. it totally drains you physically and mentally. you will get a post adrenaline dip. I feel anxious about going to sleep as i so t like the feeling if anxiety when i wake up. I get diarrhea, hot and panicky, dry mouth and gag. I also don't eat..have you seen your gp?? you definitely need some counseling and or maybe some medication to help. private message if you want to talk.

Hi Anne,
The trick is to really not worry about sleeping as the more you worry, the less you will sleep.
Nothing will happen to you for hardly sleeping a few nights, other than you will be "tired but wired".
I had really terrible insomnia for years so I know what you are talking about. In the end I was put on low dose Mirt, which practically knocks me unconscious 30 mins after taking it.
So rest assured that if your insomnia continues, the doctor can help you with meds. But before that, try not bothering (TRULY) wether you sleep or not and that should ease your body and mind enough to sleep.
Good luck!

sorry you are feeling this way. i’ve had the same thing happen many times. The fact that you are worrying about not sleeping is actually making everything worse. I’ve done that myself.
First of all, is there anything going on in your life that is creating anxiety? Maybe some short term counseling could help you. I have done that virtually and it works great.
I know that you tried listening to Rain Sounds to fall asleep but have you ever listened to a sleep meditation for anxiety? I never make it through because I fall asleep before it’s over. Lauren Ostrowski has a very soothing voice.
but I do think that getting to the core of your anxiety is important because there might be something that you haven’t worked out in some situation that is creating this intense anxiety and inability to sleep. I hope you do get some support for this because I know how difficult it is to work out when I tried to do it by myself. Private message me anytime! I’ve had anxiety since the age of five! So I’m definitely a veteran of this terrible affliction.❤
