anxiety after a hysterectomy
Posted , 2 users are following.
I had a hysterectomy last september, after a huge fibroid was discovered,
The operation itself was keyhole so i only had around 3 weeks of internal pain and discomfort, i thought to myself this is too easy, then 3 weeks later i started to suffer terrible anxiety and its just getting worse, i thought about black cohosh or st johns wort to help me through the panic,
I wished id googled info on post op before as id rather have the fibroid pain than anxiety, ive already had one menopause so this is something i was not prepared for.
Has anyone else experienced the anxiety if so is this normal and what can i take to ease the symptoms

Hi Carol,
I can't offer any advice from experience yet as I'm only 10 days post op but what I can say from experience is that anxiety can very much be as a result of a hormone imbalance. I suffered really bad anxiety when I came off the pill many years ago.
What has your doctor said? What exactly do you feel anxious about?
I'm a great believer in acupuncture. Might be worth a consultation...

Hi Jess
Thank you for your message, I've got nothing to be anxious about this is the most frustrating thing, im past the age of having and wanting children so to have my lady bits removed was never a problem. The op was pain free and the hospital staff were amazing at Hammersmith hospital, so I just think that my body went into shock once it realised my bits had gone and lacking hormones. My dr prescribed HRT which made my boobs so sore and antidepressants which made me feel worse so I'm not taking anything apart from vitamin D, it's so frustrating. I think it's probably a surgical menopause, but getting another appointment with my GP is like winning the lottery it's impossible. I'll try acupuncture as I had it for sciatica and it really helped, thanks again and all the best with your healing process

You're welcome Carol😉
It's a big change for your body. Even the slightest hormonal change can cause a lot of disruption.
I'm a great believer in acupuncture. Have you tried any evening primrose and starflower oil too? They're great as something natural to try.
Thanks..I need to be patient re. healing. I'm so not used to sitting around😬I did have my first outdoor stroll today which was good!
