This is my first post and I'm not to good at explaining when I was 21 I had my appendix removed but before I went under I was really scared as it was my first operation when I came round from the operation I remember not feeling to well and one of the nurses had a disfigured face and all I can remember is her face when I shut my eyes to try to sleep and now I'm 46 years old and have been told that I have anxiety and that the operation could of been the cause of it is this true any reply would be gratefully

    Yes it’s possibility

It’s your mind remembering a trauma

What is a trauma for you could not effect someone else in the slightest

So it’s in your brains memory

If I asked you what color straw did you drink that can of coke when you were 16 your memory will not remember as your brain has not put this in its memory bank

So 100% it could be this dont beat yourself up over it it’s a positive to identify a trigger

I've been reading some books on anxiety lately to help with mine, and this is definitely possible.

From what I've read, most people who have anxiety issues actually have the anxiety in them since they are born. However it usually takes a certain stressful event or traumatic situation to bring it out. I agree with this, as I never struggled with anxiety until I went to college. I was sooo nervous leaving home and being on my own, that a week before I was to leave I had a horrible panic attack for no reason. I was then anxious and nervous for weeks following, and it took a few months finally to feel fully normal again. Since then I've struggled with anxiety, on and off over the years. I really think the stress and nervousness of going away to school is what triggered my anxiety since I was fine before that.

Sounds like the same goes for you with your surgery you had years ago, when you were nervous at the surgery you probably experienced some anxiety/panic and that probably opened a door more or less to anxiety for you in general. That's what you're steal feeling it even now.

Hi I had anxiety before a recent major operation but since the operation my anxiety has got worse like you I was terrified about going under. I have anxiety at present of being out of my flat at times which I never did before. Body does suffer from truma xxx

I was also terrified about going under for my colonscopy so I opted for “conscious sedation” Versed and Fentanyl. I remember everything clearly. They said I wouldn’t remember anything which is strange

I did not have that option and to be honest what I have learnt about the severity of my operation it was good that I did not remember anything and was totally knocked out. I am sorry to hear that you have memory of your operation

Yeah I was in a lot of pain despite the fact that they kept pushing Benadryl also! And I was told to be quiet because I asked a question.  Also gagging a lot.
