Anxiety and diarrhea ?

Hi,

So for the past month I've been having diarrhea at night mostly every day. Its weird because I feel like my body is rejecting food, when I eat at night the instant food goes down my throat I suddenly get horrible cramps and diarrhea. It cant be my body rejecting it because it happens so fast, which makes me think its my mind and anxiety making that happen. Its so painful and annoying not being able to eat food at night, the cramps with food are even starting to come in the day too. I feel like this may be centered around my sleep anxiety which I've been struggling with for a year now.

Please give me your thoughts, thanks

    Hi Jonte,

Sleep is massively important for our normal functioning and to help anxiety.

We need a good deep sleep for our brain to refresh and prepare itself for the next day.

Your doc should be able to prescribe something to help with sleep deprivation.

Food can take 24-72 hours to pass through our system, even if you have eaten something to cause diarrhea it would not normally pass until about 3-4 hours later so it's probably not your evening meal that's causing your upset tum.

Talk with your doc it could be IBS ..

    All the best

Hi,ive ben told I have Ibs,I was also told there is a gut, brain connection that can caus it. Anxiety and stress can make you have constipation or diarrhea. Such is the case with me,if Im overly anxious I can get the symptom quite quickly after eating.

Is totally normal to have diahrrea when you have anxiety because it affects your digestive system too . Do you also have stomach problem ?
