Anxiety and itching

Hey everyone,

I'm 23 y/o female and I've been suffering with mild-moderate itching (all over) for the last few weeks. It started the first day I started my new job and have been hyper aware of it ever since. I have no idea if what I'm experiencing is real or caused by my anxiety any more! I googled the symptom and what came up first is that its a symptom of lymphoma or leukemia. Obviously I am now convinced I have this... I had a chest x ray (unrelated) recently and there was nothing out of the ordinary there (apart from a small pneumatocele which I have no idea how it got there!), similarly had a blood test and again everything was fine. I've gotten into this vicious cycle of prodding my neck, under arms and groin to make sure any lymph nodes haven't grown. I can feel some lymph nodes, but I'm pretty slim and have always been able to feel them and there are none that are alarming in size.

The anxiety this is causing me is ruining my life - I'm crying every day and now am pretty depressed. Luckily I've managed to keep all of this away from work as much as possible, but it's honestly always on my mind and I'm just not my normal self. I've got another doctors appointment in a week so will explain my worries then and hopefully ask for a bit of help getting through this (anti-depressants) and some further tests.

My question is to people - has anxiety ever caused itching in people? I deep down know that it is probably nothing sinister, but even admitting that to myself feels like I'm jinxing something. How have people gotten through any depression caused by their health anxiety? I can't go on like this!

You have had tests and they have come back clear, as expected for a twenty three year old.

Now you need to move on your itchy skin could be caused by your anxiety especially if you were starting a new job.

You see your GP next week so explain how you are feeling, your GP will work out a treatment plan for you, medications may be given, follow your Doctors instructions. CBT may be offered, so you will need to attend.

Regards further tests, they may not happen, they are expensive and you GP may feel at this time it will be a waste at this time. Your GP may want various recommendations from a CPN before further treatments

Thanks for your response and for putting things into perspective. I'm positive I will get through it, but it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel right now.

Yes anxiety does cause that. Don't know if you have an idea what more it causes. EVERYTHING. If you do things as I have done you will undergo the same road. Please, i repeat please do not ever again read symptoms of illnesses in google, because even a normal headache turns into a brain tumor and you will only go deeper as anxiety will come with more and more symptons, eventually you will have 100cancers, heart attack, stroke, brain aneurysm and many many more illnesses. So please stay away from google, try to spend time doing something you love, and it should be fine. I'm anxious over my health for 5-6 years and I am only 19 and still dealing with many symptoms, easier said than done but we will beat this.

Thank you for your response. I've suffered from mild health anxiety for a few years now, but it hasn't raised its ugly head like this in a while. It's debilitating right? Always second guessing everything. I want to be back to normal! I wish you every success with getting over it too.
