Anxiety and vitamin B complex

Hi all. A week ago I decided to try vitamin B complex to help fight my anxiety. The first day was ok but the second day after taking it my anxiety got so severe I couldn't cope with that to the point my meds seemed not to work as well. I Googled and some people state the same happened to them as well. When I stopped Taking them and I took only 2, the 4 day it got slowly better. Have any of you had such experience?

Two things: first, some people on here are very rude and judgemental and rather than give an opinion or advice, are basically telling people they are wrong and don't know what their own selves are feeling. That's bizarre... How can a person possibly know what a B vitamin might or might not do to another person? Makes me never want to ask for any advice on this site...sad. And second, B vitamins (niacin,6, and another that I can't remember but it was a B) made my anxiety feel much worse after taking them for less than a week. After I stopped, I felt like my normal anxious self within 3 days. If somebody tells me that I am wrong and the vitamins didn't do that to me, I will laugh because last I checked, I'm the only one that lives in this body and knows what I feel. Just sayin'...

Hi Terri. Its not your imagination. I have the same problem. B complex causes me anxiety. No matter what anyone says, remember everyone's system is unique. And there is probably a reason why we have a hard time with the Bs. When I've tried the standard formula, I take 1/4 of a dose. Some people say its the B6 that causes anxiety, but I'm not so sure. For me it could be the B1 or the B12. They are both stimulating and the B12 gives me insomnia for sure. I did find one brand that does not cause anxiety and that is liquid b complex by Genestra. However, this brand seems to cause me some mild bloating and it seems to inhibit any kind of weight loss. That is just me though. I have a weird system. I have tried many brands and the Genestra seems the least stimulating. I keep trying to take B complex because they do improve my mood substantially (when I'm not overstimulated). Good luck.

Just skimmed the other responses...wow the rudeness!!! Anyway, I am going on 20+ years with anxiety and have a B12 deficiency. I was taking the vitamins for years, along with iron. I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia, you can look it up, iron and b12 deficiency. Basically I do not absorb them in my gut, thanks to years of acid reflux meds. My last doctor had me on B12 injections. I don't know if they made my anxiety any worse, I have horrible anxiety without them so I really can't say. What I can say is do your research about the difference in Methylcobalamin and Cyanacobalamin. The later is what pretty much everyone gives for B12, it is what most of the pills are in stores, it is also CYANIDE and really harsh on your body. Try Methylcobalamin sublingually and see if that makes any difference for you. And yes it does come out in your urine, so no worries on overdosing ever.

I just recently started taking supplements to treat my anxiety (so far so good!) and throughout my research I found quite a lot in favor of b and d vitamins; there are also negative effects for certain individuals, based on your chemical makeup, as well as unwanted interference with any medication you're currently taking. This is what I found on calm clinic:

    Vitamin B6 – Pyridoxine

Pyridoxine synthesizes neurotransmitters and amino acids, and can be stored in the body. High doses may actually damage nerves and possibly lead to neurological disorders, so any supplementation would have to be completed very carefully in order to ensure you're not going far over the recommended amount.

    Hope this helps!
