Anxiety caused muscle spasms in chest ?

Does anyone know if anxiety can cause muscle spasms in chest. I have bad anxiety thinking my heart is bad but all the test I have done have shown nothing wrong. Today and water day I have had Like sharp tightening in my far left side of chest and side and somewhat upper back . It’s last a few seconds and makes my heart race shoot up until I calm down. I am scared thinking it’s my heart but no one seems to think it is. I also get a lot of upper back pain shoulder arm jaw stomach ect pain burning finger tips sometimes. Headaches ect

Really? That’s interesting as well because a girl I read a girl on a post on here had all the same symptoms as me and said to get tested for vitamin D as she did and she had a deficiency. Maybe that’s why you’re feeling like this? She also said that vitamin D plays a big part in mental health. Not sure how true that is. I had my blood test for it today so I will let you know how I get on

Mine is like sharp and tight on back on left side and can feel it on side and on chest too don’t think it’s heart at all cause I’d be dead if that was the case. But I wonder if it’s from stressing so much like I am literally stuck and can not move cause it hurts

Sounds like a muscle thing if it hurts more when you move. I once had chest pain that hurt more when I breathe in really bad. Went to walk in centre and they didn’t know the problem but said it wasn’t heart and for a week I couldn’t lie down cos it felt like someone was pressing on my chest and couldn’t breathe so I had to sleep sitting up. Such horrible feelings sad I hope your pain goes soon. Have you tried a hot water bottle?

I’m sorry to hear that I know when I move certain ways it’s worse. And when I take a super deep breath like to calm down it hurts.  I know your not a doc but do you think it could be muscle tension because of freeing out and being tense so much

When I went to the hospital about mine I said it hurts more when I move/breathe in and they said it’s not cardiac, cardiac problems don’t cause pain like that. I also get pains like this a lot and have had my heart checked many times and they say it’s fine (even though I still think it is cos I’m so paranoid) Get it checked out if you can because it will put your mind at ease and stop you freaking out as much about it x

I’ve been to Er 6 times for chest pain but this is kinda different some what but kind of similar too. Kinda get nauseous a lot as well and burning fingers and bicep and I will get sudden tightness and sharp pain that comes and goes some times lasting long time. The Er said from my previous visits that my heart is fine but this pain will be in my left side of back to my ice to my left side of chest and then it’ll ease up it hurts to breathe deep sometimes and move certain ways but other times it’s fine. It’s annoying maybe nerve damage ?

I will say this, I had chronic stress which led me to have a lot of symptoms, some of them were muscle spasms in the chest, numb arms, hypertension, panic attacks etc, headaches..

I have learned that there is no such time as "Mentally normal time" if you have anxiety. It's inside you even if you feel perfectly fine for a few moments..that's what chronic stress is..

So yes you can have muscle spasms in the chest area at any time.. you might think you are having a heart attack, or heart disorders..but it's from stress..

Usually what anxiety and chronic stress does is you get all these "fake" symptoms that make you worry more and more and more which makes you worry much more than before. Usually they are harmless but, after some time, meaning some years, all these symptoms could have an impact to your heart.

I am free from chronic stress now, what's left after this war? I got hypertension and i am on hypertension meds.

I have prinzmetal angina. It is a Coronary artery spasm. The arteries in the heart actually go in a spasm and close. I was diagnosed during a heart cath. I have pain in my chest, arm, upper back or jaw. My emotions can bring an angina attack as well as extremes in weather. Outside in the cold or a very hot day. I never get pain during exertion. Please read about coronary artery spasm, variant angina or prinzmetal angina. Few doctors understand this. I was diagnosed while visiting another state after ending up in the hospital for four days.  My cardiologist didn’t believe me until he saw the actual video of my heart cath. He said it was T.H. worse he ever saw. Almost 90% closed during the spasm. Liquid nitroglycerin opened it completely in seconds during the surgery. Now I carry nitroglycerin. Yes, it can cause a heart attack if the artery stays in spasm. After all blood is not getting through your arteries. My doctor now tells other doctors about my case. He said he tells them to keep looking when a woman tells you she has pain but ekg is fine. Don’t always assume she is having an anxiety attack. Anxiety can bring it on but the effects to the heart are real. I hope by now you have had others tell you about this condition. So many women are still undiagnosed and sent home from the hospital. Sad.

I forgot to mention this can occur when you are at rest also. I can be laying in bed and it will start. After years of this I realize they come in clusters. If I am upset I will get an angina attack and then for the rest of the week or so I will randomly get an angina attacks. Almost as if my arteries are irritated which they probably are after a spasm. Think if it this way, When you get a bad Charlie horse in your calf your calf will be sore for awhile. I guess it’s the same with my arteries. Just my observation.

Hi, what led you to get a heart cath? i've had ekg's, blood tests done, chest x-rays about 3 times i've been to the ER because of chest pain and since everything comes back normal they say it's just "my chest muscles." I would like to believe that but there's always that "what if thought" in the back of my mind whenever i get the sharp pains. They come and go, sometimes i'll get them all day throughout the day, some days i won't get it at all. It's scary, doctors say its very unlikely for a 21 year old to have heart problems and they just run me out the room with painkillers, smh. Do you have any advice?

I had pain for two days while travelling and went to the nearest hospital. They kept me for four days and did the cath and I spasmed during   (artery was closed 90%)went to see a cardiologist when we went home. He ordered film of catherization and said it was the worse he ever saw. Pain in my upper back, left arm and chest. Sometimes in my jaw. If I was you I would gather as much information about coronary spasms, prinzmetal angina and variant angina. Make an appointment with a cardiologist and Take as much info as you can with you. Keep a journal when it happens, what you are doing at the time and your symptoms. Take this also. Tell him you are going to keep making appointments with doctors until someone can tell what is happening. My doctor teaches and tells other doctors now  not to be so quick to always dismiss women with an anxiety diagnosis.  I was just lucky that I had spasm during the cath or they would have probably sent me on my way with anxiety meds also. Hope you get an answer soon or at least nitroglycerin to help. Remember they seem to come in clusters. I will have pain several times during a week then it will settle down until it is triggered again. Heat, cold, emotional feelings even a hot shower can do it. Good luck and keep being your own best advocate.
