Anxiety/depression

Has anyone been given citalopram for anxiety/depression? Doctor given to me today. Not sure whether to take it or not. Paroxetine worked for me before but for some reason he's not given to me as he wants me to try something else??? Don't see why when that one worked.

If something worked for you I would insist on an answer as to why that is not being given to me anymore. Sometimes doctors like to give out a new medication and use people as guinea pigs. I have a huge issue trusting doctors sometimes. Perhaps he has a medical reason? But he needs to explain that to you. If this other medication is new then I would be apprehensive as doctors tend to start pushing the new drugs because the old ones are no longer money makers. That's just my two cents. Anyway you should definitely have an explanation as to why he has not given it to you

Perhaps it would be best to make an appointment to discuss this issue with your GP

Was nothing said at the time he prescribed a different med?

Yes i said i had paroxetine before and he just said i want to try you on this one its better for what you have. I took paroxetine well over a year ago then took myself off it as i felt better. It was obviously doing its job.

In fairness your GP has the full facts of your medical history.

One assumes he is prescribing this med in your best interests.

Also in fairness we cannot demand a particular med, even if we have a history of it being prescribed.

Situations/meds, change all the time as we move forward, personally, medically

Having said that, whether you decide to take the citalopram has to be your decision. Those who have no knowledge of you, of your medical history, cannot make an informed decision

If it helps, my meds, after a two year hiatus where I came off them, were changed on my GP's advice.

I took the new meds and am fine

But you must do what's best for you.
