Anxiety disorder.

Hello all. I'm new to this forum so let me go over my situation.

I have had mild anxiety and possibly mild depression for a while now but it has never affected me that badly as it did this last week.

I woke up Monday 1/03/2022 feeling like my heart was not beating normally and my chest hurt. I wasnt feeling that great and used my blood pressure monitor and had a very high blood pressure as well. This feeling of chest tension and a very uneasy feeling has basically lasted up until now. Last two nights I have woken up in the middle of the night feeling like I am having a panic attack and only calmed down when I took a xanax.

I guess my question is I thought panic attacks only last for a short time, but my feelings have lasted this whole week. Could this be Generalized Anxiety disorder and a combination of panic attacks? How would one know and how would you treat this?

PS. I am seeing my GP and a Therapist this coming week, but figured I could get others opinions.

    Hi there,

It could well be anxiety but when you have new symptoms it's important to have them checked out.

If you are given the all clear by your doctor then it's important to work on your anxiety, even if your physical symptoms diminish once you get reassurance from your doctor.

    Best of luck!
